Autosport 2007~ A jolly boys outing (Not 56k)

Post by Stuart »

Yesterday a few of us made the trip up to the NEC for what promised to be a great day out. Dunk (dynamix), Dave (GT4 Dave), James (Bladerider) and Dan met up at Brampton Hut, enjoyed in the broadest sense, a breakfast and convoyed up to the big smoke. We arrived in good time, parked up and marched for about a mile and a half to the halls that this years show were using. I'd never been to this event before but didn't expect much based on various reports I'd read on other forums. I was in for a pleasant surprise.

This report will not be chronologically accurate as so much went on, so many people met, so many deals instigated and products drooled over. Bear with me though, if you weren't lucky enough to go, this write up may give you an insight into what it was all about.

Dunk and I had discussed specific things we wanted to source both for ourselves and the club. We both decided on gay new race suits for the forthcoming activities (I don't mean gokarting), new crash hats and some tools and equipment we are putting together for out BigPower trackday tool box. In addition to that we wanted to see;

Performance Friction
Yokohama
Toyo
Lifeline safety equipment
Motocam
Rob and Glenn from Time Attack
Seeing how many people James could offend :)

An outrageous collection of cars ranging from Le Mans conquering monsters to prototype concepts were everywhere. I have never seen so many GT40's, whether geniune or not, there were classic Mercedes Gullwings, Ford Escort rally cars, Le Mans Moslers etc etc I'll let the pictures do the talking. I warn you now, there are quite a few. Please excuse the quality of the pictures. But better than nothing I guess.

Before we'd even got into the show, this was in the car park.

A new Mitsibushi prototype (Apparently)

Image

My personal favourite car of the show, the full carbon Radical

Image

For the two wheeled fans, I believe this is the new R7 (Please feel free to correct me)

Image

The name of this escapes me, but Dunk and I couldn't agree on the looks. There were several components from the car around the stand. The brake calipers were twice the size of my Brembos but so light..........

Image

Proper brakes for a Porsche. James did say he'd like them but I had the feeling Karen would kill if he splashed out........go on mate :)

Image

An unusual picture to try and show the width of the front arches on the latest WRC Impreza. Very impressive. I think I saw Dunk doing something very rude to the car at one point.

Image

Also unveiled was the new track car from Mazda. This is supposed to be ideal for people who like the idea of doing one, but then bottle out at the last minute.

Image

One of the advantages of this show, in my mind, was the up close and personal views of some of the cars. Imagine getting this close to the near mythical Fuujin Drag car at Japshow?

2.8 Hi Deck

T51R
Image

Prodrive bucked the trend and were only showing Astons of various ilks at this years show. Oh dear, what a shame :)

Image

Image

One of our local motorsports teams, Comtec, were there.........looking very nice.

Image

A stunning and original GT40 with superb pedigree
Image

Image

James decided he'd amuse himself and start waving at imaginary friends.......

Image

A lovely old school Mercedes

Image

Various exotica

Image

Mr Websters Duke Skyline sans stickers but with a new driver for 2007?

Image

Image

Image

RCM's glorious Impreza. Proof that you can get other colours

Image

Compo's for Frayz. Very nice in the flesh but can't see why they won't make a 17". They even do our corporate colours too.

Image

Another freak showing of an Impreza in 'Non-Blue'

Image

Dave really like AST suspension and his gesture says it all. Dunk looks on lovingly :)

Image

In case anyone thinks the Sagaris doesn't look racey enough.......

Image

Let me hear you say 'Mmmmmmmmmmmm'

Image

Various Le Mans cars from their exhibition. My poor photography cannot capture their original condition. The Bentley, for example, was still splattered with French bugs from the Mulsanne.

So there we are. I hope you enjoy the read, I also hope you make the trip next year. We will be arranging a trip if you would like to join us. Thanks to all for their great company. Based on the show and the chats we had we're working on deals and better prices on loads of new things for members including;

Tyres
Brakes
Lighting
Safety equipment
Camera systems
