Ive killed the scooby
Sorry to hear the news, another Scoob bottom end bites the dust!!!
if its an insurance warranty you have from an independant garage for heavens sake ensure they fit a new crankshaft rather than re-grind the orginal or you will be having the same bother all over again in amatter of a short time.
If you intyend to keep the car for a long while and intend to use it hard then I would be tempted to see if you can choose a place to do the work, it may cost your pocket a bit more but then you know you are getting it done right!

Nothing is indestructible Martin...........I appreciate that this may well have been tongue in cheek, but are Evos any different in the respect of reliability at a basic level of tune? Surely before you write the Impreza off in terms of engineering integrity, you'll need to know why it failed. Good luck with whatever you get, just in my opinion and experience any car can break down and have failures like this, let alone a high performance car with a few miles under its belt.martin wrote:something that can handle me

i have been informed wheather it is correct or not that if the bottom end is not replaced with a new unit its more than likely to go again as aparantly they dont take well to being re built is that correctstuartstaples wrote:Nothing is indestructible Martin...........I appreciate that this may well have been tongue in cheek, but are Evos any different in the respect of reliability at a basic level of tune? Martin, where ever you read that is wrong, it depends on the components and the people doing the build. A good rebuild would see your car go for another 105k I would say. again its all down to budget. When mine went I looked at loads of options, standard replacement build, buy a secondhand one etc, at the end of the day i decided if I had done it on the cheap then flogged it I would end up having another car that I wouldn't know the history of how the engine has been treated so decided to have a full forged build done, only thing then is you get carried away :!:
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Hmm. I had a type-R version IV from new to 24000 miles then sold it to a mate. The bottom end went about 3K miles later - they do seem to be prone to this.
I drove it pretty hard, but did warm it up and do oil changes etc....
I'd think twice about a secondhand high compression Scoob now, TBH.
Anyway...
