Any ideas why my car now won't fire up.
Thanks for the advice guys much appreciated. So my plan is as follows.
1. Buy the bit's i've been meaning to for ages. I.e. Splitfires and fresh plugs. Will order on Payday.
2. Replace the battery as I've had problems with it in the past (I don't use the car very often).
3. Fit Splitfires, Plugs, Grounding kit and battery. (I've got a spare Ignition Amplifier now)
4. Hope for it to fire up.
5. Try the spare ignition amp.
6. Hope for it to fire up.
7. If not successful storm around the garden screaming blue murder.
8. Buy second hand coilpack loom!.
8. Have the ECU checked.
9. Call in the professionals to fix the ba*t*rd car as I should have done in the first place.

If I'm honest, I would go straight to number 9. I have tried to be a smart arse in the past, gleaning information from the net, hunting out bargains on eBay etc.............normally wasting time and money along the way.

You checked the alternator?? If youre alternator is knackered then this will cause the symptoms you have mentioned as it will not be supplying much battery power that the car needs and its possible to cause a misfire.. And as you now say, you cant start the car without the booster it sounds suspect to me. If you have a multi-meter, test the battery voltage now and see what its at, then jump it and see what it runs at, get someone to keep the revs up whilst you do it if need be. if its below 13v you have a problem. If you can see the alternator, test the positive wire on the alternator with a multimeter and put the negative to earth and this will show you if the alternator is sending out the power the car needs, if the power at this point is above 13v but at the battery is below, then there is a problem with the wiring..
When my alternator went on my MR2 it was very sudden, but initially it sent too much power to the battery and boiled a cell, then as it died the cars electrics failed and then the car wasnt too happy running, then you cant start it without a booster..
Let me know if youve tried the alternator already
Cheers mate
