Drivers side arch trim for MKII 16v Gti

Post by Ben »

Had a little accident (dropped the car into a 2 foot deep puddle - bloody farmers :() so I need a second hand drivers side front wheel arch trim for my MKII 16v golf as my old one is now in pieces and all the holes that it connected with are broken to pieces.

So word of warning - never drive into a puddle - you never know what it's hiding - you should have seen my jumping around and shouting in the middle of the suffolk country side !!!!!

Hello Pike, do you know as to where I might get a complete manifold + exhaust system made for my sons Golf Mk2 Gti, as the one we use might only last a few more laps of the Ring and i want to get it sorted before we go over there in April. If possible we want a single tail pipe and not a twin one, we have called Hayward + Scott and he gave us a quote.......a silly one !

Hi Maddog,
I'm currently running a Scorpion exhaust with a TSR 4 branch manifold I manage to find 2nd hand.
TSR are notouriously expensive but the manifold is good quality and did make a little difference in the response of the engine (nice pops on the over-run too).
I haven't had any problems with the Scorpion centre section and back box, but its not really a brand I would look too for performance gains. (It does sound bloody lovely though!)
Jetex, Supersprint, Sebring all make good quality pre-fabricated systems for MKII's and are well worth pricing up in my opinion and offer a choice of tail pipes.
Powerfow may well be worth a quote too but I'm not sure if the are able to make manifolds.
If you don't mind me asking, much did Hayward & Scott ask for a system?

Hope this helps

:o that is unreal - If we were talking for the skyline I would say cheap - but for the Golf ... a shocker.

I have had a look at the TSR complete engines this week - but do seem quite expensive to me. Anyone got any experience of their work and whether or not the 1700 for the engine is worth it?

Ben, I know that Haywood + Scott make very good bespoke exhaust systems, but on phoning and giving them my requirements he just replied with this figure in and instant, without me even going down there to let him have a look at my car.
Slightly off putting to say the least.

I've got an old TSR catalogue, and when you look at what you are getting for your money its not that good value. I've never had 1st hand experience of thier lumps but have heard they are quite reliable.
It would be interesting to get some quotes from a few local engine builders and see how they compare for equal specs.

I can't believe that exhaust quote! Its alot when most manifolds around are at the

Is there a Gti specialist in Norfolk?, or more the point do you know someone who would build me a nice shiny new engine and gearbox.

I am waiting on a decision from my mate Ben as to whether he will let me have his 16v lump - it's got new pistons, valves, been polished etc - plus the exterior has been painted, but he can't decide if he wants to sell it to me or not !!! ...
