Wurble weeble hello

Post by jdening »

OK, so it's like soooo uncool to post a 'Hello' message. Except you seemed to have asked me to in the registration email, and quite frankly, who am I to fly in the face of public opinion.

Anyway, so there we were, looking at a nice sensible Range Rover, when we spy a battered old Pug 205 with a roll cage. Turns out to have a bigbore 2.1l engine, rollcage, big brakes and all sorts of stuff....well, we just had to have a go. So, I jump in, hit my knees on the roll cage and curse loudly. Neil (my chum) howls with laughter. So, instead, we jumpstarted it, and fired it up.

Wooo! It sounds like the biggest bag of nails in the world - now to drive it! After I squeezed my delicate dancer's body through the roll cage, I guessed at where reverse was, and managed not to collect the Boxster parked in front of it.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, it was loud as feck, but fundamentally a bit of a nail (and he wanted 1000-1500 for it). So, we didn't buy it and jumped in the M3 and went home for tea.

Two days later I bought a track prepared E30 325i for 700 quid. And promptly got bollocked by my wife. Hurrah!

Me? Ex-bike racer, track day instructor, fancying a go in four wheels.

Now, did someone mention Ely???

We have a few fellows from Ely, some of them have webbed feet and share a striking resemblance

Welcome to the site James. Yes the registration form did kind of ask you to post in here because naff or not, it helps to break the ice a little (Even if you do turn up at a meet and recognise half of the 'village' ) Glad I'm not the only one who gets bollocked for automotive decisions (don't mention Brembo's) and anyone that has two track and two road toys too is a very welcome guest on here :thumb:

:-)

Actually our Bete Noire was the Ducati 916 I bought my wife as a wedding present, to resolve the problem of 'which bike do I want to own - an R1 or a 916'.

I nearly got divorced just before the actual wedding service took place.

I then blew it up 500 miles later! Result! :x

:welcome: to the Club James.

I have not voted in your poll as my missus does not like me getting to close to the local girls  I am not from round here originally btw, so I do not share the webbed feet (Duncan on the other hand..... ;-) ).

Are you coming along to the snetterton meet next week? We tend to have a little convoy from Ely :)

Hello and Welcome James

Nice opening post - glad to see you're from the same end of the swamp as me and a few others

Dunno about that, but if it's half as entertaining as my riding (Dave Stewart 2001 'You go quite fast for someone who ate all the pies'...cheeky sod) then it should be twice as...something. Not sure.

Anyway, just had my first drive in my new E30....my cheeks are actually aching from the howls of laughter as we played with the comedy bald street tyre in the wet fen roads around Soham. We nearly managed to keep it spinning into 4th....top laugh.

Anyway, car seems like a good 'un - astonishingly fast to my mind - especially compared to the E36 M3 Evo that my mate was bringing home for me - sure, the M3 was a big chunk faster, but not as much of a gap as I'd thought...ho hum.

Anyone tried maxsport RB5 cheapo track tyres? Any horror stories? How bad can they be for 50 quid a corner...

Otherwise its Toyo R888. And find the person who bled the brakes on the E30 and cut their private parts off. Spongey as a mad cow's brain.
