Wheel nut drama

Post by Nik »

Well, I had an interesting time on Friday.

I went to change my wheels over to the track wheels, The tyres on the rear BBS were, shall we say, a tad sparce.

I loosened all but one of the wheel nuts on the front wheels only to find that one of them was rounded off. I tried banging a socket onto it and allsorts but to no avail.

So the track wheel option was out of the window and I had to bite the bullet and get 2 new rear tyres fitted.

Whilst I was getting them fitted, I asked the chap if he could have a look at the rounded nut and see if he could get it off. He did manage to release it and I got him to put on some locking wheel nuts that I had bought.

Whilst one of the rear wheels was off he said to me, "thats why it rounded off, they are the wrong wheel nuts. they need to be longer as the socket is only just catching the end of the nut and there is barely anything for it to grab on to".

So I have just ordered some new wheel nuts from Driftworks' shop. Not too badly priced at
I may be getting older but I REFUSE to grow up :D

Interestingly - you probably have the wrong nuts for your wheels - my set require special nuts that come with an adapter that allow you to do them up - which I don't actually have, so changing them can be fiddly :)

Sounds like you were quite fortunate Nik. The magnesium ones that came with the AVS ones I have are all a bit fooked now and therefore need a swap. I'll have a look at DW.......thanks for the tip. ( By the way Nik, I specialise in inane drivel  )

If it helps either of you - I have a spare set of standard bolts.

Thanks Ben. I have ordered some from DW but if they don't fit for some obscure reason I will let you know. :)
