R34 GTS Models

A mate of mine has been toying of upgrading for a while now. He spent over a year turning his 2.0DTi Vectra into a 3.0 V6 with just about every body panel "tweaked". Problem is he had more fun actually messing with the car than actually driving it now that it is finished.

Anyhow, he has ideas about a R34 Skyline GTS. I have little knowledge about this breed of the Skyline, but IIRC there are several versions. Anybody care to fill me in, with suggestions as to which would be the most desirable?

There was no R34 Gts !!

They made the GT which has the RB20 normally aspirated 2.0 litre version of the stright six, they also made a GTT which was the single turbo derivative, why they called these GTT rather than Gts Im not sure, presumably to celebrate the Neo variable valve timing version of the RB engine.

They also made a GT-V with a normally aspirated RB and the Attessa quasi 4wd system, and there are a couple of four door models with the non and single turbo engines.

Im not that up on "non GTR's" to be honest, not because Im a snob, its just they are not the versions that always interested me.

Hope this helps - and you would probably be best off with a single turbo version for tuneability, four doors are cool, rare and spacey, and cheap. But they arent as stiff as a 2 door, and are flippin enormous if space is an issue !!

Yep no GTS on the R34 you have the GT a non turbo 2L or the GTT which is basicly a GTST but nissan decided to change the name between the R33 and R34 so 2.5L single Turbo RWD. It runs the RB25DET NEO engine which gives standard power figures of 280BHP with a top speed in the region of 170 according to Nissan.

I have a GTT and it has some lovely features and prices are cheap at the moment if a skyline is an option and you want RWD then the GTT is the one i would go for mainly because of value for money. for about 9K you get switchable traction control for those rainy days, ABS and the RWD is just great fun plus tons more. I have had both R33 GTST and R34GTT and i am so happy i changed. Also when it comes to upgrades and power increases you cant really beat the RB engine as long as you let her warm up and cool down properly and change the oil about every 3K she wont let you down.

I even think my R34 is 10x better than the Elise I used to have and I thought nothing could replace that car

For upgrades and power increases a 2JZ will beat an RB every time,

And neither is anything like in the same league for parts, options, poer and cheapness when compared to any of the Yank V8's !!! They're expensive, unreliable and dont have much torque. But they are nice to say you have, and usually have a nicer car (imho) wrapped round the engine !!!

But then I really wish I'd bought that Camaro too, and then I havent owned a ferrari or a Lamborghini yet either !!!

Dont think he is worried about modding it TBH. Although most people say that! I would have to consider the Supra myself, but he seems set on the R34 :)

Another quick question to ressurect the thread :)

It seems most of the R34 GTT's have a triptronic gearbox. This raises alarm bells to me, but has anyone had experience of this gearbox? Also is the HICAS system as bad as I am lead to believe the 300ZX version is?
