Car advice - what would you do or choose.
For a general runaround car, it has to be a TDI. I bought the Mondeo TDCi Estate earlier this year to a) Fill up with drag tyres & stuff for TOTB and b) drive through France & Spain for the summer holiday. It's chipped to about 160bhp and god knows how much torque 8)
So if you like Golfs, go for a test in a TDI

Yep another vote for a TDCi of some sort
Mondeo Ghia X would be my choice, you could pick up a nice 3 or 4 year old example for around 4k now and it will go forever

Jo's got a Golf TDi at the moment from work, its a pretty good drive, and very economical even though its the auto model.
Its pretty nippy too, i was quite impressed.
Thats the current model, not sure what the older ones are like, but I would have thought economy would be just as good, and presumably build quality will be amongst the best in the Tdi field.

I was in this boat 2 years back - same budget 6k - slightly different requirements - went for the Skoda Octavia TDi (74k on the clock) - best damn car from a cost to run / reliability perspective I've ever had (and I've had a few) - now has 133k on it and the only breakages so far have been 1 coil spring (
