Would probably go and fix the MK2 golf personally.

Maybe fit a newer engine have heard of many different transplants inc a Audi tt 225 engine fitted to a Mk1.

But if you are thinking of something new maybe go for a Renault Clio 172/182 Cup.

if its purely as a run around, i would buy a skoda fabia type thing. sensible car, loads of room for shopping and can be chipped to give very respectable performance :)

Ok, renualt could be a good idea.

If i was to redo the MKII i'd be keeping with a 1.8 16v lump. I've been looking on the TSR site and there are some nice options there for resonably good money.

Anyone have a recommended supply or know of a nice 16v lump for sale - preferably and painted up and shiny :)

I'd probably think about a Golf GTDi, nice and economical

Either that or a 20v Turbo lump for the golf :)
