Post by MarshyRA »

Hi everyone, been recommended to come see whats going on here for more info on doing track days etc. Complete Newb right now so please be gentle, looking to get my car in on some track day action so any pointers much appreciated...

As for my car, some may recognise me from over on Scoobycity, I have a v2 STI Type RA with a few bits and pieces  Off the road at the mo till early next year, but will hopefully be ready for the spring!

My aim is to eventually have a go at the time attack series, so any advice on this too please! :D

Thanks for the hint dynamix! And did is that my twin Adz on here too? So guys where do I start?!

Hi James and welcome :)

I would recommend starting off with our track day at Snetterton in Feb (if you can do the one next week) as that will give you a good feel for the car, what works, what doesnt and how to drive it before jumping into the deep end and committing to Time Attack and timed/competitive sprints at circuits :)

We have a full track day calendar for next year here: http://www.bigpower.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1259

and, we are looking to have a few members competing in Time Attack next year as well as a lot of track days, drag 1/4 miles, sprints, plus our monthly meet at Snetterton :D

BigPower is a very different kind of club/forum to SC so please make sure that you are familiar with the rules/polices first ;) http://www.bigpower.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=48

Apart from that enjoy and get some pics of your car up :D

Welcome to BigPower, James.

As Duncan has said, the attitude over here is quite different to that on SC, but in a good way obviously!

Duncan and Stuart have arranged quite a diary of events for 2007, so you'll hopefully find something that suits your constraints.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I have just checked out the rules and will stick to them, but you will have to excuse my occaisional spelling mistake - english was never my strong point! Sounds like this should be a really good forum as so many nowadays are becoming flooded with people talking rubbish, arguements and repeated silly questions! Email is now sorted too thanks Stuart.

Yeah I imagined time attack would be jumping in at the deep end, but thats what I would like to end up doing eventually! So as suggested I will scan the calender and let you know when I will be hopefully be joining you and getting started round the track! Does anyone want to give me a quick idea on costs and what is normally involved in a track event? I have been along to a few RWYB events at Santa pod and seen what goes on but never competed there either, looking forward to it this coming year though!

I have been a car fanatic for as long as I can remember, and since I have passed my test have chopped and changed to find my ultimate car - and finally I think I have settled on my RA as its just so fun. Being only 22 I guess I am no where near as experienced as many of you guys and also not having had the chance of a track day, but I guess you all started somewhere and it sounds like I am in good company!

Here is a picture of how it was when I bought it, but it will look/perform a bit different when it is back on the road!
