you talk about buying modded cars i thought long and hard before i brought my evo 4(5months)and most people i spoke to said if you can find one un modded you now that if you mod it yourself you now its done proply.thats what i done and i have had it 6 months and its been faultless(touch wood)still un modded for know.So think long and hard but dont rush into something because they can cost to put right.

To be fair, if you have an imported vehicle. What may look and act standard may simply not be the case, especially when you take the head off revealing HKS forged pistons etc..

Some, not all vehicles when on the way into the country have most of the equipment taken off and sold on auctions by the people on the boats during the importation process. As many people find out when they look under the bonnet to reveal extra wiring and gadgets and when tracing the wires back into the car only to release you have multiway plugs with nothing attached..

So if you think its standard think again....!

Roey,

I think in your case yours is a one off, especially with your dyno reports and the standard ECU..!
Rare as rocking horse doings..... if you catch my drift.

I would never buy standard again - I bought standard thinking it would be a wiser decision - well it's being an expensive decision i.e. standard doesn't cut the mustard for long!.

what ever the car you choose, go for at least basic mods, suspension, brakes, exhaust, induction - on a skyline that will have saved you about

Some interesting points here;

I would say that you need to consider a couple of other options as well. Do you have the mechanical knowledge to look after it yourself or will you employ a 'tuner'? If you need option B, do you have a tuner you can trust that is local or are you happy getting the car to the Outer Hebrides every 3000 miles?

I would also look at what you really want to use the car for too. The odd B road blast will be less stressful than regular quarter mile/track day activity. With that in mind, you should buy a car that fits your requirements best. As Ben says buying what appears to be a standard car will cost you a bomb to modify unless you're happy scouring fleabay and taking a chance with every part you buy.

It boils down to risk and reward Jamie. The cheaper the car seems, the bigger the potential aggro. Personally I would buy from a UK forum owner. You can search all the old posts, check the guys and the cars ups and downs and I'm sure you'll get a picture of ownership that you could never get from an auction.

Best of luck in your decision mate :thumb:

Agree with Stuey there - I've often seen forum cars come up - then search to only find horror stories with regards problems they've had - hence why I never post about problems with mine (not that it's ever had any :))

cheers for the comments guys.

i want something nippy and good round the bends. capable of some trackdays and visits to the strip.

won't nessesarily be used everyday and i want 5 seats so i can take the family to race events.

2/3 or 5 door is fine.

my shortlist really is..

skyline
evo 2/3/4
pulsar
legacy ( preferably the B4RSK )
M3
540 V8
legnum ( if really desperate!!! )

i could accept getting a well modded R33 GTS-t but i don't want bad weather to spoil my fun, hence the thought of 4wd.

thats why i would consider a R32 GTR from an auction.

like i said, i am 80% convinced i'm buying in the uk etc. but wanted to know how the auctions are these days?

why pay for overheads if its an easier and safer transaction.

some auctions ask for your budget, work it out in yen and then find a selection and they bid on your behalf?
