Mike
Thanks for posting. I appreciate your discretion in leaving names out at this point.
I can understand your concerns and it really is best to tackle this head on. The aggro of asking some tough questions now will be infintely preferable to having to deal with a blown engine and the bills that go with it, and who should pay.
In your shoes I would try and get the car to someone like Zen, Mocom or Scoobyclinic and let them have a look. Describing cars and their issues is a nightmare over the phone or via email. At least in their hands you could get a quick and straight answer.
May be worth phoning Zak as he's your closest specialist and see if he can advise you in the short term. For the sakes of other members and any associated companies involved, please try and keep the content of the thread as factual as possible.
Cheers
Stu

Zak is already lined up to give me an opinion on friday.
I have tried to be as factual as possible, as i'm not looking to get anything out of this other than a car that will live up to my expectations and above all be reliable.

Great Mike!

Good luck Mike, hope the resolution is an inexpensive one, there is nothing more tiresome than unknown issues / issues that weren't present prior to work - even with my prefered tuner I've had to return due to not being satisfied with the results of some work they did (Actually more like my paranoia and not being used to the 'down grade' I went for due to cost though)
Dum spiro, spero

OK, I've spoken today with Zak @Mocom and have agreed for him to get some new beta software & hardware that will allow him to map my original ECU. We discussed the merits of after market ECU's, but due to the costs involved to get one with ignition retarding for knocking etc. we agreed that trying to utilise the original ECU is the best option.
I'm seeing him on friday to have a knocklink and charge temp guage fitted, along with fitting my latest eBay purchase, i nice set of shiny new AP 6 pot brakes!
At that time we will take the car out and ensure i'm in no immediate danger of doing any serious damage, till the equipment for mapping can arrive.
Thanks for all your comments and i will keep you updated!

To be honest i'm not sure.... he just said he'd check her over just to see what she is doing at the mo......dynamix wrote:Mike - thats looks like a good plan. Information is the key when doing this I think to save from serious damage.
Is he gonna hook up the wideband and test it out on the road?
If nothing else i get too look forward to some nice new brakes! :-D

Well done Mike
I'm sure Zak will look after you mate. All these little 'issues' make you stronger and more aware of the potential for aggro and hopefully you can pre-empt further grief.
A full re-map isn't the end of the world, a new engine (particularly after the extent of your work) might be.
Onwards and upwards mate :thumb:
