Tony - superb write up of your experience.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Out of interest - were there base maps available for your car for your ecu?

Nope, absolutely nothing. This was made worse because I upgraded the Fuel and ignition systems. So I started with a blank sheet of paper and worked from the ground up, making mistakes and learning on the way - but that is another story

A lovely write up Tony. Thanks for going to the effort to report on the day. It's quality posts like this that we, as a forum, should strive for :thumb:

Nice to see an insight as a layman into the black art of mapping. I'm looking forwards to seeing mine done at Gary's in the near future. Well, ok, the kind of near future :)

So what's next Tony?

You are not wrong there Gary. The base fuel and ignition, dare I say it, are the easy bits! In fact the RR part is an easy bit too, compared to the on road mapping getting the car to drive nicely. Then there is idle, cold start, all the compensations, Image Image Image I now find myself thinking on levels that I did not know existed 3 months ago :o

Yeah you are damn right :D I have done every thing on this car, engine rebuild, suspention, brakes, and pretty much single handed. I do take a lot of pride in this fact - as you will find out if you come over for a chat at one of the meets

Cheers Stu, I will try and pass as much information on as I can. I am a newbie who asked questions of what to expect, and I did not hear back what I needed to know (I am not knocking anyone BTW, I appreciate that to those experienced with this sort of thing it may become obvious), so I though I would get it down for when the next person takes the leap.

What is next....... umm,
A) fix this bloody misfire, which will include me chewing the ears of the experts at DTA this week. I have had assistance from PhatBob (thanks Rob - your a star mate) it is great to talk things through with others. I have pretty much elliminated everything bar 1) a duff sensor 2) a duff ECU 3) a duff operator
B) Map a bit more boost in.
C) Fit the seats and harnesses (Cheers DaveGT4)
D) Fit bigger brakes sat waiting.
E) Fit top mounts and get some more neg camber on the fronts.
And all the before Snetterton on the 16th I hope
Then take a 'little' break for Xmas. Back to it with Water Injection and more mapping.

Anyway, back on topic. Any questions please ask, I will answer any inc PM's from my limited knowledge. Also any comments/information/experiences need to be written ;-)

(Oh, and feel free to give me some stars - it will make me feel better as I have no badges of honor)

I know what you mean about having a sense of pride in having done all of it yourself.

I've done most things on my S13 myself too, I stopped myself doing the mapping though simply because i couldnt get my head round it, LOL and Gary@apt has been helping me out a lot so I let him map it instead that way i know its safe, he'll also be building my next engine because I dont have the time and patience to do that!

I'll be adding a star to ya as well :D

Cheers
