Tyre advice.

OK I am putting this post up now so i can get some research in before i have to renew my tyres next year and keep an eye on ebay etc for a bargain!

I am after a set of very sticky tires for my skyline for fast road use and track day use. I never use my car in the wet or even the damp so dont need any for wet weather.

I was looking at something like a cut slick but i cant afford to go through a set to often so i need a bit of longevity in them as well, also i dont know what cut slicks are legal?

Duncan I was looking at the tyres you was running and they look very sticky, Bridgestones if i remember? How do you find them?

Yoko A048 or Toyo R888

My little stickies things only come in the 225/45 R17 size - great for me but not for you I think. I love them and they work pretty good for me

Yes I have seen a lot of talk of the Toyo R888's.

I need 275/35/18's.

Alexb has Toyo R888s I think. He says they are very good.

I have heard great things about Dunlops Super Sports (ask Gary from AP Tuning as he's fitted them to his Evo) They are available for good money (

R888 may well be too soft for your car Ian i reckon - they would be fine for a while but prolonged track sessions or a full lap of the ring in a heavy car would melt them from what i have heard.

Tyres are a very individual thing though and some people like diff characteristics. Just look at the F1 grid on a cold day to see the variances in compound etc.

Yes Gary was recommending the Dunlop when I was at APT last week, also believe he said they do a kumho trackday tyre which was fitted to another car which was on the ramp. Again about

I've run the Toyo R888's for my track days. Found them very good, although they do start to go off after about 15 minutes of track action...
I was planning to try the Yoko A048 now that my Toyo's are dead, but it appears I can't get my size...

So it will be another set of Toyo's I guess.....

205 / 40 / 17 on the track wheels.
they can rub a little on the hard bends and thats with the incredibly hard, back braking suspension.
I run 215 / 45 / 17 on the road.

I'm looking into removing the plastic wheel arch liners to stop the rubbing, but i'd be concerned that the 215's would start to rub on the arches.
The other option would be to take the bends slower
