Just out of interest, what are other people seeing for Air Charge Temps at cruise and redline?

50 Deg C on a really hot day.... I know I need to fit my FMIC, can't honestly remember what they are on a cold day... Martyn may remember he helped me do the set-up.

JC - is this say 20C above ambient at redline?

on the road, i see around 16-20C with the front mount. once airflow drops tho, temperatures start to rise, on the rolling road last sunday the intake manifold temperature was mid to high 30s.

the highest temperature i read during summer was 90f on my old sensor, which was susceptible to heatsoak due to being sat on top of the head.

my FMIC is sufficient large that i havent seen any major difference between redline and cruising temperatures, we are talking in the region of a couple of degrees celcius.

how does that 16-20C compare to ambient Andy?

i guess its around 10c above ambient, bearing in mind my air filter temperature sensor appears to be utter tosh! :)

those are the temperatures i have seen during the last two weeks

Cruising are about -20 below ambiant

My full WOT is icy cold

At what sort of level should there be real concern for DET?

Just wondering what level I should set the warning lights for my charge temp gauge.

Cruise is 2 degrees above ambient
Full Throttle is around ambient + 10 C

But, I have not done a track day with this gauge fitted yet :)

Just a little update from the above

I have been experimenting with the Intercooler Water Spray to see the effect that this has on the air charge temperatures. After all Subaru wouldnt put it on there for no reason would they?

The original intention was for me to use the external trigger from my SPA guage to trigger a relay to spraying the water spray when the air charge temp is at a set level. I was going to have a manually override switch on this as well so that I could say whether I wanted this system to work (ir on track or spirited driving) or not (poodling through town).

Having installed the ACT gauge or rather got Mocom Racing to do it, it is interesting to note that the water spray has a very small effect.

cruise
normal: ambient + 1 or 2 C
with spray is almost the same

= no suprise as there isnt much compressed air going through the IC at that point.

part/half throttle
normal: ambient + 1 or 2 C
with spray this drops by about 1 degree C to exactly ambient

= again not a massive improvement but having some impact.

full throttle
normal: ambient + 10 to 20 C depending on whether one off full kahuna go or a succession of fast driving.

with spray this drops by about 2-3 degree C but has yet to convince me that it is really making much of a difference, although it is hard to replicate and log as it is a standalone guage.

I wouldn't rely on the sprayer. i used to have one. They are frowned upon at many tracks.

IMHO i would get a good FMIC and a decent water inejection system. IAT's are a bit of a diversion from the real problem with high incylinder temps. The scoobs i have wored on seem to all suffer the same problem. I turbo sits under the intercooler piping.
