Can anyone help me with postage?

I am looking to buy something special (a twin turbo kit) from America at the moment but one main factor which is putting me off is the massive postage costs.
I have been quoted by the owner of the goods that he wants

Fedex rates will be cheaper than this I am sure - for the items I have collected from the states - I have arranged collection on my account with Fedex - saves being ripped off by overseas vendors.

Do you get insurance? Does it go by sea or air?

a little on the steep side, but believeable if he has declared the true value of the kit and the insurance cost reflects that.

dont suppose you are friends with any of the US armed forces guys at the local airbases are you? they are treated like US residents and have their own postal service which should be a lot cheaper.

No, it's all very helpful and a worthwhile discussion. As Andy says if the seller is insuring it properly then you should be fine.

Dont forget that you may also be clobbered for import taxes at around 20% of declared value.
