I mean, is it 2 stroke? 4 stroke? Direct drive? Clutch?
When you first start you will think that one chassis is as quick as another, but then you realise the truth!
Reading the plugs is the best way to sort jetting, but in those classes where you can remove the head, we would check the piston crown to check the fuelling.
With limited power, you get good and bad components, I've known people to buy 20 carbs which are "the same" and test each for lap time, and cherry pick the best few, sell on the rest.
My 1st day and new dilema
Well done Scott mate !!!!
Awesome results.
As for selling the FD, I know your main goal was to get the fastest 1/4 for an FD running on stock twins and you have beaten all expectations with what you did achieve.
You could always keep the FD and not play with it now mate lol just enjoy it, bring it to some trackdays so we can show the Skybus boys what the RX can really do if tuned properly.
But I suppose it all comes down to cost, can you afford to keep running it ? I presume when you get more into carting you cant bring it in the RX lol so it will have to be your van ?
Swings and roundabouts mate, our goals are completely different, personally I would keep it and enjoy it.....but down to you.

Sorry..
Its a 125cc 2 stroke with power valve. It has a kind of clutch but its more rpm activated than anything else. There are some pics on here of it.
i cant remove the head due to the limits of the class. The head is sealed and taged. I was gonna use the plug as a guide.
I really fancied getting a large jet adding some timing and running methanol for fun LOL

Garath.
The rx7 has only been tickled at the mo. There is still more in the twin turbo but i am resisting putting slick on it for now.

Okay so it's a rotax max. They have good power but don't have much in the way of a wide power band. You're not allowed to adjust the ignition timing, and the seled engine is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what you can do regards tuning. You used to be able to use different emulsion tubes and needs, but now you can only change the main jet pretty much.
There is a lot with the setup, which you'll learn. The trick with the rotax is being smooth, as you don't have the grunt to get it out the corners if you mess the line a little. Running smaller rear sprocket is the way to go, but you may find you've maxed out the revs a little.
New tyres will make a big difference, it's usually to have 2 sets on rotation, practice on the older ones, and race or even just the final on new ones. I'm not sure that is the latest exhaust you have there, it will be worth checking as the latest ones are quicker.
Ultimately you may be looking at a new engine, the fastest engines are currently prepared by Paul Carr, but given they are all supposed to be the same, god knows what he's doing, but I hope it's legal! Fuel doesn't make a huge difference, although oxygenated fuels weren't available from the pump when I raced, so they may be worth it. But with the fixed ignition timing and compression ratio there may be nothing to be gained over 95RON unleaded.
The chassis looks like it has all the right bits. But there is plenty to play with.
Tyre pressures
Width
Seat stiffness
Number of seat stays
Seat position (very important)
Axle wall thickness
hub carriers (different stiffnesses)
Rims (ali & mag handle differently)
Floor tray thinkness
Sidebar bolt tightness
Ride height
King in inclination
Front camber
Ballast position
Gearing
Powervalve preload
Main carb jet
Needle height (I think you can still change that)
Other stuff I forget, but anything that changes chassis stiffness.
The biggest improvements will come with making the kart and drive smooth so you can get away with the longest possible gearing. Weather will have a mild effect on grip, but makes the tyres warm up slower or faster. The biggest single external effect on grip comes from about of rubber laid down on the track. During the summer, on or shortlty after a championship meeting the track will be uber grippy and you will find yourself doing all sorts to reduce grip and stop the chassis from hopping.
All exciting stuff I know!
Keep practicing.

Argh Cool....
I may be seeking you out with questions later on.
This is gonna sound crazy but.... It seemed that after i adjusted the power valve ( a friends idea ) It didnt seem to run as well. It also developed a slight miss at high end which i counter acted by backing off the throttle ( the engine is very easy to read ) just before it skiped a beat. I put this down to being over fueled. It is running a 165 jet but i was told i should have been on a 155 due to the weather conditions but maybe i will adjustg it out a little to see what happens to the oer all feel.
The main part i found was that the driver has to be very gentle and try to drive a tidy as possible if not it bites back real hard.
I surprised myself by using a Senna ( please bow down to the god ) technique. Use the steering to control the front and the throttle to control the rear. This worked a treat on the damp track which really was a challenge.

Thanks I may hold you to that.
I have been getting driving tips from a friend who just won the GTC so he knows a thing or 2 LOL
