Anyone tried to sell there car through a trader or dealer ?

Saw an advert today by a local car trader who would sell your car and obviously make a few quid in the process.
1. Anyone done this before?
2. Any issue's?
3. Can I cancel my insurance and tracker subscriptions whilst its in there hands ?

Can you be guaranteed they won't sell it cheap just to get their percentage?.

I sold Tan's old SL through a dealer in London, the same one we bought it from. The answer lies in your trust of the firm selling your car. I didn't/don't trust car dealers as a rule and this experience went some way to reinforcing this, but I'm sure there are hundreds of fine reputable car dealers out there. Doing it this way we got a slightly better than trade value price but lots of waiting around for the deal, so slower than a straight sale to the dealer (obviously) Ask yourself this. If you reduced your car to the same price you'd get from selling it in the manner you describe, would you sell it quicker?

I would not cancel the tracker or insurance unless your dealer is happy to take full and complete responsibilty for the car and puts this agreement in writing. The other consideration is that if you want the car back because your dealer hasn't sold it, you'll have to get the car reinsured and the tracker sorted again.

Only my opinions and experiences.

Thanks Ben & Stu.

I'll give it another week in Autotrader then find out how much selling direct to dealers might get me.

I thought traders (unless you know them) are only handy if you wanna part-ex ?

Be careful from those company's that want a "one-off" fee to sell your car for you, I got caught a few years back

Ive always tried to avoid using dealers. People generally say you will lose out when you use a dealer.
I always use auto trader, ad trader, local papers and generally as many different ad companies as possible.
