i wouldnt have a clue what it was and what it does to be honest :D

can you enlighten me ? :lol:
Bit long winded but this thread on 3SI talks about options http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php ... ge=1&pp=10

Basically Propane is a higher octane rating and is used to 'Top Off' the petrol mix, insurance for carrying this doesn't seem to be an issue either, I just paid
13T's, Greddy E-Manage, Greddy Profec E-01, RC 550's, 3SX fuel reg, Walbro, K&N, Tarox G88's and DS2500's all round, lowered, EGT probe, Intake temp probe, Nomad BOV, Short Shifter, Hella Upgrade, De-Cat, Powerflow Twin Exhaust, TechEdge Wideband Kit.

LOL, propane, I run my car on 100% propane, aka LPG - only 38.9p/L too :D
Yes its ~102RON, so can take more advance and is less prone to detonation. However as the calorific value is lower, and provides no inlet port cooling the power output is actually lower.

For octane booster for petrol I use neat Xylene or Toluene, being that by trade I'm a mad scientist :twisted:

Toulene =P~

More details..........what % do you mix it at? Do you pop it in before a refill? Any special pointers?

between 10-30%. no more. anything more than 30% of toulene and xylene and you will have cold start and combusting problems. Also dont forget to use a lubricant also when using these two chemicals because normal petrol has lubricants in it and by using these large volumes of these chemicals dilutes them. Normally something like marvels mystery oil or very small amounts of ATF fluid.

I have done a huge post on this before in another forum....but using a 30% by volume of toulene mixed in 98 RON fuel is 105 RON, and xylene is 106 RON. Using this in the proper proportions is perfectly safe.... known people who have used this stuff for years. You should be able to pick of these chemicals at a paint store (used in paint thinners) or DIY store. Just make sure its just straight toulene or xylene and you will be fine.

as far as price goes its cheaper than any 106 RON race petrol, or octane boosters for that matter. Octane boosters dont really work that well and most will never raise over a 1 or 2 of RON. The best octane booster tested in recent years is NOS octane booster. It has been tested at 3 ron increase. Nothing else seems to even come close....but its expensive. If you happen to look at the NOS booster bottle..you will discover a large ingredient happens to be toulene. Go figure :D Most people are like "well put two bottles in there". Well IMO thats a bad idea. not only for the expensive costs. But most octane boosters have other chemicals such as cleaning detergents and such. and used in larger quantities than originally designed for could damage your engine. Ever wonder why your plugs are yellow after you have been running octane boosters?

toulene or xylene. the only way to go on a budget.

Thanks Jez :thumb: Having re-edited your post so that all the text type (U and b4) was removed ( ;) ) it gave me the chance to absorb your words better than just reading it through once.
I have conventional octane booster for tomorrow but will look into this more thoroughly for next year as the trips to the circuits become more frequent :)
