Are we ever satisfied with our cars ?

Post by RX7 »

Was washing mine and doing the usual 'wish I had a vented bonnet, must get the suspension sorted, will do that dodgy bit on the paint sometime and fit the new wing'

Got me thinking, is anyone ever satisfied with their car ?

We've had Stu, Ben etc talking about engine mods, lots of others talking about aesthetic bits they are planning and even Bladerider talking about modding his GT3 !!!

It seems we spend money on getting a car either with bits or without and then think 'Now I need to get some Nismo/Feed/Greddy etc accessories'.

So has anyone actually reached that point where they just dont want to do anything else to the car ?

I don`t think anyone will ever have a finished project, my problem is if anything happens to the car like a dent or scratch it annoys me and think to myself, well while I`m there I might as well do this and that. Before you know it you spend loads of wonga, but then find something else whilst your there.

Dont think about it !!!

I got quite depressed during my skyline ownership when the bills went past 70k. At which point I had no real option but to sell before it cost me much more.

Thats the only time I have reached a dead end with modding a car.

Im 32, Im not rich and I havent won the lottery or been left a golden spoon. I simply work hard (at times :D ) nowadays for myself and spend pretty much every penny I have on the cars, unless Karen really stamps her foot and a holiday/kitchen/carpet or whatever has to be bought to release her grip on my testies !!!

I stopped counting when the car spend total went past 350k !!!

:o :o :o :o :o

No - never - even when I had the new exhaust etc - on the way home I already got used to it and was planning how quickly I could afford the next mods.

LOL

Believe me you dont !!!

I am very fortunate that we have made some money on our houses - like most everyone else - and my other half has a good job too. Thats what has paid for most the toys.

I got used to 600bhp in the R34 in around 2 weeks and was already saving up for the next round of mods for 800 when the "big" engine let go in Holland.

I think it's part of our DNA that we always want to tweak or plan, in fact for me, most of the fun is the planning. I had news today of a little nest egg coming to fruition in November (thank God) and I absolutely guarantee that all of it, 100%, will be spent on the car whether it needs it or not. I would say that my car is my hobby and therefore there is a lot more to it than just driving the thing. Using sites like this, magazines and talking to fellow drivers that spur me on. The thrill is the chase, always will be.

Actually it's all the fault of Bigpower - I said I'd never have decals on the car !! .. now I have .. I said .. I'm satisfied with it's performance ... but now i'm spending !! ..

But then I suppose it's because you get to see so many really fast machines - my car is no slouch but compared to the metal we have on this forum - it needs uprating !!!.

The amount of times I say thats it Im not spending anymore money on a car I'll see something and have to have it

I'm now in the process of accumulating the bits and pieces to install a full pc in the car, running xp,sat nav,dvd,mp3,the Mitsubishi datalogging software and anything else i can. Hopefully have it done by end of November, but as i know sod all about pc's it maybe a bit longer :?
