oh for a better camera set up... it works fine in good light, but at a distance and fading light, gets a bit grainy...

next year might be EOS time :D

Blatantly stolen from Scoobycity.....but I wrote it, so there! :P

Was an early start, as usual, and after a couple of unscheduled off-route diversions around Northampton, we go to Silverstone just after 9.30am, to see a *huge* convoy of scoobs, mostly P1's, heading into the track. Shortly after, TerryB came and fetched us, and we headed off to the largest club parking area, reserved jsut for Scoobs. We bumped into John Fuggles, of JAE and 800bhp R33 GTR fame, who gave us the heads up for the parade lap, then headed off to the BRDC grandstand to watch the action. Great to see the big tuners, such as the Norris Evo, RC Developments Evo's, Zen Scoob, Scoobyclinin Scoob, RK Skyline, Abbey Skylines, Fensport Celica and a couple of thunderstorm-like Vipers going round bends for a change, not just in a 1/4 mile straight line. Some serious performance there, but they still seemed slow compared to the speed of the D1GB boys...........the level of drifting has come on massively since I first saw it 2 years ago, a much more professiona discipline.

The track had changed from the last time I saw it, starting off along the National circuit straight, which gave entry speeds to the first part of the Luffield complex of about 110mph........only one transition on the track, but still spectacular action. Big respect to the old school BMW 3 series estate from Holland - that guy was crazy, and his car sounded awesome!

Then we went back to the paddock, had our safety briefing, then formed up into convoy...............about a 60 car convoy!! Lead by the P1's, then the rest of the blues, then the RB5's, then all the other colours, with myself as the sole white scoob at the back, with Claire from The Organisation, hitching a ride to keep an eye on proceedings. After waiting for the drifters to get off "our" track , we then moved onto the circuit.........

What we thought was going to be a sedate parade lap was actually a lot more spirited than we'd thought! It was a faintly surreal feeling crossing underneath the bridge on the famous start-finish straight, then blatting around the National course for two full laps. Such a buzz to do this, was one of the most amazing, entertaining and thrilling things I've ever done in the Scoob, and we didn't want it to end!

After lunch, the action continued...........the Norris Evo clocked a 1.02 lap, just pipped by Clive Seddon's RC Evo with a 1.01 lap. Then the pro drifters came out, and after whittling it down to the last 16, the Tsuiso twin battles started. Usually close, we had some slight contact on one battle, a couple of spins, and some fantastic action.

By this point, the cold was getting the better of us, so we legged it back to the cars. After a quick restage to have some group shots taken, we headed for home. Luckily, the rain had held off all day, until we got back on to the A14. Driving back along the A45, we spotted a familiar looking Celica on a trailer.....we cruised up alongside, and lo and behold, it was none other than Adrian "Fensport" Smith, towing the Celica GT4X...........the one and only time I'll ever overtake that particular car! Gave him a toot on the horn and a wave, and got a grin in return.

It's been a tiring day, but incredibly worth-while...............I still can't believe more of you didn't want to come along, as you missed a very rare opportunity today!
