Headlight air intake

Hi,

Does anyone know the situation legal/MOT-wise regarding using part of the headlight opening as an air intake? I'm guessing technically it's a no-no but in the case of the RX twin-lamp aftermarket units you can replace one lamp with a cold-air feed so there is still a light on both sides ;)

You can use a headlamp duct legally between the hours of dawn and dusk (or illegal before 30 minutes after dusk and 30 minutes before dawn) By this I mean a complete headlamp duct replacing the headlamp unit entirely. If you're only intending to replace one bulb on one side, I'd say go for it. You may well need to find a co-operative MOT station though.

I think you will still struggle to get air through to your inatke unless you chop the headlight panel. best bet is to shift the rad over to the near side chasis leg. This will open up a hole for a nice duct

MOT should be fine, was done last week with the mini number plate :)

Scott - yeah, not really had a poke around to see what space is available. Mine isn't a Type R so no driver's side oil cooler, there's a great space and opening with the standard nose, but the headlight assembly makes it impossible to get any ducting up to the filter :(

I love to have a headlight duct as i think they look hard as nails as well as doing a cracking job of feeding lots of nice cold air.

Shame you cant do it on the bugeye impreza:(
