is the network named the same on both machines?

run the networking wizard on both and give them the same network name and away you go :)

if that doesnt work - you will need to enable the IP address of each computer to the other in their firewalls (please tell me you have firewalls in place :) )

But it should find it regardless of whether the name is the same, it would throw the error that you couldnt connect to it if it didnt like the network names.
Even if the computers MAC address is being blocked it should still see the router.

Can you ping the router ?

Sounds like it may need a visit mate as Ben said. We could have a look on sat night ?

Right we're nearly there :)

The computer/desktop can 'see' the router (the wireless network is active now). The computer/desktop cannot access the internet though.....................

Ok first things

Try finding your internet explorer shortcut, open it and then in tools, options there will be a connection tab, make sure there is nothing in the dial up box, then click the 'lan settings' at the bottom and make sure that the first box is ticked.

Try the internet again.

Failing that you may need to go into the wireless network settings again and click properties, then tcp/ip and then input the ip address of your machine, make something up and then the subnet mask will be entered automatically, the default gateway is that of your router. (If you dont know what this is you need to fire your laptop up and then when its connected to the wireless goto start, run, type cmd, then ipconfig and press enter. The default gateway will be there.

Try the net again.

I dont think you need to do any disabling of firewalls on the router as your laptop doesnt need it doing when it connected.

Very kind offer guys but Kaido is sacred :) I actually got the internet working on there last night, but bizarrely, the internet as in I.E was inaccessible after that initial go and yet MSN worked perfectly!!

I will have another look now I'm sober and let you know.

PS~ Terry, frustration was not the word.
