i didn't realise you used the car so little!!

get the alternator checked for sure ben.

a flat battery will easily overwork an alternator.

you might want to invest in a trickle charge system too.

Of course, the battery may only be failing under load - if you buy a battery from Halfrauds, ask them to check the existing battery first with a load tester across the two terminals.

Lack of use of the car can ruin a battery in less than 12 months, as did my R34 GTR (same thing through lack of use). Hence buy a battery from Halfrauds. If it fails within the 3 yrs which seems likely, - get a new one!

Or at least start the car once a week and let it run for 10 mins! If you are not going to use the car for a while in the winter, take it off the car, make sure it is charges with a terickle charger, and then keep indoors away from the cold and any freezing temps.

that won't really help tbh nik.

the load to start it will be far more than what a ten minute warm up would replace.

jap cars are usually quite lucky as they have starter motors with "gear reduction" this means the starter only pulls about 0.8kw as to maybe 1.6kw from some european manufacturers.

at the end of the day, its all the battery is designed to do ( unless its a deep cycle leisure battery )

think of it as a 100 meter sprint runner. its good at quick, short bursts of energy.

after that, it needs a good rest to recover.

a leisure battery is more of a marathon runner.

like anything empty, it will do no good

you need to keep batteries topped up. thats why on new batteries it has a date on it for its next due charge if not sold

batteries can last for about 7 years in good conditions.

imports are a different kettle of fish.

we used to supply "atlantic trading" with about 60 batteries a month coz of all the cars they were selling once in the country.

fully charged and kept charged is the key to a long life battery.

in time it will cause the alternator to over heat trying to run the car and charge the battery.

quick update. Grounding kit fitted, plugs replaced, coilpacks reordered.

Car will fire up from cold everytime and will rev properly etc.

Once warmed up - splutters and if you attempt to restart it, it won't fire up.

Checked my battery voltage which is showing as 12 - you turn the key to the first stage and the gauge shows current charge.

So, problem must rear it's ugly head when hot (obviously).

I know its frustrating Ben, been there and got part of the t shirt, but at least with the things you've already done you're a lot closer to solving it once and for all. Not long now mate :)

Ben, your problem sounds exactly like mine (although worse) and ive pinned it down to the coil pack. Fingers crossed this will fix yours. Have any other BNR32 owners lent you their coilpack as a test?
