Are you doing anything to the car before Sunday other than adding the extra weight of underbraces??
.......oil change.

I'm going to try and get it booked into zen for an alignment set-up but it wont be before sunday. Just waiting to see if Ive managed to snag a set of bc's on the cheap or not as if I have then they will need to be fitted and set-up at the same time etc. If not then i'll be sticking with the current set-up of the car. Im going to have a bigger play afterwards this sunday as dont have to rush back so will start with normal pressures etc and see how it goes.

None of us know 5% of what Alan Meaker knows. Ring or email him for advice or just get opinions from well informed keyboard jockies on here.

Your choice.

Stop me if I'm wrong. Are any of us better informed than Toyos motorsports Manager? (He has worked throughout the industry before anyone chips in and has raced/sprinted for years too)
Not sure that he has driven my car - I may be mistaken though.

BC's a bit harsh if it's also a daily driver Graham - I just sold my set a couple of months ago.

On the specifics of making a classic Impreza handle on road tyres (which aren't Toyos) possibly yes. His ultra-low pressure advice clearly cannot be applicable to all tyres.

Come on Pike. You're a proper racer and your car's more like Tomcat's than mine or Duncan's. Any pearls on sorting pressures in the real world?
#-o I really should up the medication or at least note which thread I'm posting in. What a plonker! I confused this with Tomcat's tyre thread. Sorry

Sorry just got back from almost sunny Silverstone.

Alan was at Mallory with his pyrometer before the GTI Series (as it was then) kicked off, we followed his advice with regards to the pressures and we are still using them today. He was spot on. Nice even heat all across the tyre and consistent flat wear

I know for a fact that both 8v & 16v points leaders are running the same pressures as what Alan advised us to run initially. He knows his product, is a bloody nice bloke and gives away free hats.

EDIT:
Sorry I forgot to post this earlier,

I would go for low pressures if I was setting up a car for sprinting and low speed handling.
You want to try and get the rubber moving around to physically generate some grip and maximise that contact patch. (If you ever have some spare time calculate the area of rubber that is holding you on the road, its alot smaller than you think.)

The increased movement of the rubber will help warm up the area of the tyre in contact with the road and activate all those chemical compound components in the tyre that make them extra sticky and generate the last ounce of lateral grip that you need.

A tyre set at a higher pressure and used at low speed will not heat up enough to warm the rubber sufficiently for the chemical compounds in the tyre to work as intended.

Well heres the brief resume of my day on sunday and a vid of my best run which wasnt that great. Day started with me waking up with me looking at the alarm clock reading 8.45 :o . So I jumped in the shower, threw some clothes on a belted up the m1,a1,a64 at the legal speed limit  and arrived just in time to sign on and hear the safety breifing but didnt get to walk the course or anything.

So straight into my sighting lap which was ok and psted a 55 second time for my "practice/sighting lap". first run was awful but was still ok at mid 52's and got steadily faster trying to break the 50 second mark. To put things in perspective Andy F's first time was 46's and he got that down to shy off 45' secs. The pro scooby clinic car getting down to just under 44 secs at the end of the day.

I ended thte day on 50.5 and had a sixth run that set a time of 50.25. So close to what was to be my personal nemesis of the day.

I did learn a lot though in terms of what made me quicker and what didnt and that I hope will stand me in better stead for the next round.

I ended up 32nd overall out of 37 and 21st out of 24 in class so I wasnt last  . To some up the day was a great day, the weather was brilliant (Mrs said I had a bit of a "glow"), had a great time, arms ache, still knackered but was a little disappointed not to have done a little better and it would have been nice to have broke the 50's barrier. Think the nice pink bits under the car helped as the car defo felt tighter but that could be down to me driving a bit more effectively.
