888s are surprisingly good in the wet. They don't like standing water but neither do most treaded road tyres. Your biggest hazard on a wet track is over confidence. I'd be inclined to stick with the 888s and learn them gradually.
BP held a track day at Snett a couple of years ago on a wet Feb. day, even Duncan was there. In the morning, everyone, almost without exception, had a spin regardless of tyre choice. So what does that tell you?
