Lets say, he is not my preferred choice when purchasing lubricants

On the other hand, Gary has built, installed and mapped more motors than most tuners.
I would take his advice  My last motor was run in on Millers running in oil, I wont be using it this time. (but I'm sure many people have had no problems with it, obviously there are many other factors involved other than oil when breaking in a new motor)

I have never ever heard of running in forged motors on Semi :? . Some say use it as an intermediate oil before swithching to fully syn for a few thousand miles. I have always prefered semi over fully syn. But thats a whole new subject. :D

John, try and relax mate. The project is supposed to be enjoyable if possible. Opie wouldn't recommend the wrong oil, of course not. They would almost certainly sell you the best oil they have in stock to suit your needs. I would probably say that you have done no harm in doing some research but unless you want to go down the route of winding yourself up with each and every step, find someone you trust, build a great relationship with them and build mutual respect.

It takes time and money but will always pay off in the long term.

Running in oil is usually pretty thin so wouldn't some 5W30 Mineral oil do the job. It's only in for 1000 miles and you'll be driving it gently and lovingly, like a granny, for the running in period anyway :)
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

For what it's worth I would say trust the engine builders....That is their area of knowledge. The oil man knows oil the engine builders know engines and whats best for them.

Projects have to be built on trust. I can fully understand the reasoning for trying to understand what your tuner is doing, but I would say that the way to do it is to discuss it with them in minute detail.

I know from my own experience with Area 52 that I trust the work that they have done 100% but that does not mean that I blindly accept 100% of what they say without understanding why they suggest what they do. Luckily Mike and Jase understand my need/desire for knowledge and are more than happy to explain everything they have done or would recommend and why, like explaining to a 5 year old. Those of you that know me well will appreciate that Mike and Jase must have the patience of saints

Oil is such an emotive issue though and it needs to be right for the tuner during the running period at least as what you dont want to do is give them any reason why they can say, problem xyz is because you went against our advice and ran abc oil. After all running in is very important, whichever running in technique you use.

The semi synth oil wouldnt be my choice in my car but i run it in the Seat and for most cars it is considered a superb high end oil. It's only because we become oil snobs/petrol snobs in owning and running the cars we own that we start obsessing about them.

Relax, chill out and trust your engine builder to deliver you a great work of art :D
