The newsletter was emailed to everyone with an ACTIVE and CORRECT email address on our database. Judging by the number that I get bounced back to me, there are quite a few people that need to update their details. You can do this in your profile section :thumb:

Good question Jim.

When I approached Dunk last year and said that 'I'd like to start a forum and here's this domain name' I hadn't really thought it out much further than being able to provide an area which would be the preserve of people like me that wanted good threads to read with high quality photos, absolutely no pillocks or chavs, free from bullshit power figures and 100 people going on an events list only to see 4 cars turn up. The forum should celebrate responsible performance driving and encourage as many people to try using their cars as the petrol gods intended.
At that point, I bounced the ideas off of some good friends and we pushed on. From that day to this, the site has grown organically with no real promotion and no flyer campaigns (probably something I'd like to maintain if I'm honest) Duncan and I had no long term plans.

8 months on, I would have to say that I am pleased for two reasons. The site is about where I expected it would be in terms of activity and uptake. I expected that we would get a lot of visitors and fewer joining up. That's fine. Our zero tolerance of the sort of cobblers that afflicts some other forums will put some people off, they may look at it as arrogance, I couldn't give a monkeys. I think we need to protect this community and until I'm in the minority on that front, I'll continue chucking out where relevant~ no different to any of the other moderators. The second and more important reason that I'm happy with the sites 'progress' is the support that we get on our events. For me, that was always the main reason for doing something different forum wise. To see so many of the clan attend monthly meets/track days, genuinely going to Time Attack and the Euro Drift Championships rather than slapping up a list that never materialises.........that is what makes me happiest. From inception I really wanted people of a similar 'walk the walk' attitude to get together and judging by the support the forum has received from you all, I would say that we are on the right road.

Dunc has spent months getting the admin of the forum working properly. We have our own shop for merchandise and performance related goods. We have an enviable group of traders on board and we will be profiling each one in a new section very soon (more news on this soon) Yeah, overall Jim, not bad at all..........

Things for improvement? Well there is always room for things to be better.

I'd love to see more in depth threads whether they are project based or driver experience related. I know the enjoyment I get from reading about Pablo and Barts mission to get the Sierra competitive for example and how Maxx (The instructor) gives us an insight into the art of car control. I know we don't all have the time to write lengthy diatribes, but this site is like every other aspect in life~ the more you put in, the more you get out.

I'd like a more diverse mix of cars as well. It's natural that the orientation (excuse the pun) of the site will be Japanese. The performance models are cheaper and with many of them falling into the category of 'good doers' it is obvious that this will happen. Perhaps we should look at ways of enticing those with marques to get involved more readily? If the site doesn't appeal to them, why not? Are there things as a forum that we should be doing?

I think the forthcoming events will bring enormous interest in the forum and that growth will continue in a steady fashion. We have some great things to look forwards to collectively and as long as the emphasis remains more about doing than talking, I'll be happy :thumb:

These are only my thoughts, not some pre-prepared notes cobbled together between the 'management'. I'm sure each of the guys will have their own takes on things.

wow - I know this sounds like a cop out but Stu has hit the nail on the head. We were fed up with clubs of keyboard warriors and in the last year I revived my interest in participating in motorsport and want to see this continue. We both could nto find what we wanted elsewhere so thought we would start our own club as there must be hundreds of people that get bored with the kind of prats that frequent other clubs/forums.... this has proved to be right and is only just starting to grow in my opinion. Once the rest see us about this year through track days, drift, drag, time attack and basically any other form of motorsport, they will queue at the door wanting to be part of it.

That really depends on the people on here to make it somewhere that people find interesting, whether that be traders offering great deals, insight and helpful hints or people writign of their own journeys - all of this is good reading. You can get YouTube videos anywhere but honest toil for more power, better reliability and solving of common issues between marques makes for a widening of the normal checklist of mods that get carried out.

I learn loads about what I can do with mine by looking at stu's skyline, pablo and barts sierra, scott's Rx7, etc aswell as the people drivign imprezas. Long may that continue :D

All in all - chuffed but we have only just started 8)

It is nice to know how the forum came about, what the aspirations were and your thoughts on how it was progressing. For me this club embodies everything that i look for in a club / forum.
As Stuart said it would be nice to have a wider range of makes as the way that different manufactures go about building and tuning cars is very educational.
I was saying to Ian on sunday that we thought we had a big turbo on our car until we went to snetterton in December :o
Well done guys you have created something rather special here there is no other forum like it and lets keep continue to keep the bulls*** out.

I'll be honest mate, when Ben told me about a new forum Stu had created and that it was designed with a more responsible approach to driving cars I thought it wouldnt last very long. Especially when there are plenty of other forums out there that focus on specific cars eg Mazda Rotaryclub / GTR etc etc. I was an avid MRC'er and nothing else.

But nevertheless I joined the site, started to get to know people on here and started to see that everybody was keen to show off there rides or help give advice to people when in need.

After the first few months it was obvious both Stu and Dunk had worked really hard to identify what was expected of members and the real ethos of what Big Power was about. I think they should be commended for getting people on board to start with who they knew and trusted (sadly I dont think I was one of them right from the beginning) to set an example for anyone else joining the site. This has helped the site mature and unlike mentioned forums there arent threads that have to get removed / closed etc etc by people who are deliberately stiring up trouble. I love the fact that it doesnt matter what kind of car you have it will be appreciated by everyone, there isnt the snobbery of the other forums that only want to see a particular car and everything else is considered rubbish !

The wealth of offers and traders on here that Stu and Duncan have secured can only be commended, I fully intend to be using any of them at some point in the future. Lets face it, cars arent cheap so any money we can save and have people we trust working on our cars is a huge benefit !!!!

I'll echo Duncans points about learning about other cars and I thoroughly enjoy the threads people are writing with full descriptions and pics of what they are doing. But to me it is important not to make it just a technical forum, I love the photoshops / the vids / gaming threads too and enjoy the banter that goes with it.

Big Power is starting to become a very large entity and its brilliant we have so many members now from all walks of life, all with the same interest of using cars sensibly.

If there are things you dont like or would like to see, whether its an event thats car or non car orientated (for the girlfriends obviously!), a supplier you would like to see on board etc etc then dont hesitate to send us (Stu, Duncan, George, Ben or myself) a PM and we will see what we can do. The site is as much for you guys as it is for us so dont be afraid in getting in touch, even though Stu is as big as Darth Vader he doesnt rule like him !!!!!!

Overall I am thrilled to be a part of Big Power, its a full credit the site has grown to every member on here and I think 2007 has plenty on offer to everyone !!!
