Old school roadster '32 ford project

Post by evildave »

After selling the evo and paying a deposit on some windows i decided to buy a car that could be a bit of fun for blatting around the country lanes and general thrashing. I did get close to investing in another mk2 escort but was a little concerned it'd cost a fortune to get to a decent place where i'd be happy. So i found a kitcar (robin hood 2b) locally for sale and went for a test drive.

I was fairly impressed so stumped up the cash straight away! The 2b is one of the larger and heavier kit cars about so is kind of ideal for someone over 6ft. I managed to trace the original builder to find more detail on the engine and turns out it was a burton supplied 2.1 pinto, sierra head with a lot of porting, biggest valves possible and a kent fr34 cam and adjustable vernier, all this mated to a type 9 five speed box and in a 700kg shell certainly has potential.
So recently i decided to change the car into more of a old hot rod style, like the '32 ford roadster.Image
Measurements are fairly close and i can tweak a fibreglass body to suit. The car is stripped and i've sold all the parts i don't need which will finance the new body etc.

Hoping to have it complete for next spring, hoping the weight will come down significantly now the mild steel body has been replaced by fibreglass and some of the space frame has been cut and removed.

Stripped the front suspension to find broken bearings knackered shocks and general poor build quality, new springs on order, new bearings from ford sourced, and a set of mini front shocks coming too.

Need to section the grill and get the bonnet level and work out how to lose 8" out of the rear end, but its all achievable. The complete body only weighs 45kg
