Recycling is very dangerious..

Post by john B »

On sunday i thought i will do the right thing and recycle all the bottles and jars etc.....so as it was a nice sunny day i am off to the bottle bank in shorts , tea shirt anf flip flops.....as i have done many times before.
Any way there i am with my box of empties and i notice the bottle bank is quite full but still enough room to get mine in.
So 3 or 4 bottles in and one of the bottles that was already in there makes a bid for freedom and launches itself out of the bank and aims at my feet...Now I know I'm getting on now but I am still quite light on my feet so I hop out of the way but og no the bottle on its bid for freedom takes a liking to my flip flops and decides to smash on the ground facing upwards just as my foot lands back on the floor....
Yep you guessed it my flipflopped foot straight down on the top of the upturned shard of glass......Ouch !
First reaction is that f**kin hurts....second reaction is sh*t thats a lot of blood.....ok phone the other half to come and help......guess what phone is at home on charge.....Sh*t !
So what do I do ? I have some paper towels in the car but I can't get to the cut because the glass has the flipflop pinned to my foot, only thing I can do is pull the glass out myself so I can stem the bleeding....I know I shouldn't but I had no option as it was starting to look like a murder scene.....so grit teeth and pull the glass out not a nice sensation but out came the glass along with something that I'm pretty sure should have stayed inside my foot...it didn't look nice a bit like a yellowish worm cast.... I was quite sure it shouldn't have been outside anyway.
Right paper towels on to stop the blood as best as possible I wedged my foot back into the flopflop for extra pressure then hopped round the car to get in......ah ! Right foot injured manual car.....
All I can say is try this sometime is a safe environment......drive using just your left foot it takes some doing then add heat and pain it really does make you focus...
Thankfully I live very close to the bottle bank so on took a few mins to get home...
I suggested strongly to the other half that I better go to A&E as the alien was escaping out of my foot...and I'm sure it shouldn't be !
So nice steady drive to the hospital " Its ok love no rush i'm not in pain or anything"
Get to A&E and to be fair I am being seen within 25mins a quick clean up and examine the alien......and the doctor decides its just fatty tissue and it can be pulled off..........F**k me if that was fatty tissue then it was attached to my fu*king eyelids cos I swear I felt everything move from my foot to my eyelids......needles to say a few expletives were said and the room was going grey......time for a little liedown I think......while I was having a little lie down the alien was cut away and after 20 mins the room was back in full technicolour....and my foot being dressed.....so all done lets get home less than 1.5 hours in A&E that calls for a beer....
out we go me hopping and hobbling across the carpark when the other half said it bleeding again....she wasn't wrong it was like scarey movie when an arm gets cut off spurting !
Well thats not normal i'm thinking so back in for bigger dressing and bandage.....
Bless those nurses and doctors and the NHS I think its a brilliant concept just badly managed.....
I had to go to work yesterday on crutches jesus thats a workout in itself....but after 5.5 housr on my dodgy foot I was in trouble.....god it was aching last night...
No work today and I guess for a few days so I guess I will have to resign myself to sitting in the sunshine with a beer or two....
I did however think I better change the dressing and examine the damage well it ain't pretty and I won't be on strictly anytime soon....but hey could have been worse...let some air get to it for now but jesus it sore.....
So in summary watch out for those dive bombing suicide bottles or where steel toecap boots when recycling bottles...

Ouch, i bet that hurt.
Salt is for children under the age of 3, get out the iodine:willy_nilly:

Keep it covered for a couple of days to reduce the risk of infection while it starts to heal and lay off the alcohol as it thins the blood which in turn could increase bleeding and slow down the healing process.

You double hard bastard John! Most of us simply diet to loose weight, Not pull the fat out through our feet!:D

I have to agree with Pablo though, Stay off the blood thinning juice and i hope it gets better soon.

Shieet mate that's a proper injury !! One of the reasons why I never wear flip flops ever....apart from at the beach and I even walk in trainers down there :)

Are you sure it's recycling and not drinking that is dangerous :)

You realise now that you will have lost all sensation and speed in that foot and won't be able to manage the Rex anymore......you'll probably have to settle for something a bit more sedate.....like a 2 door Scooby ;)

But you wouldn't have been at the bottle bank if you hadn't drunk any booze :)
