Health question

Post by Rob S »

Q What goes squeeze, squeeze, squeeeeeeeeeze, pop, ouch FFS that hurt and then turns warm relief trickling down your neck?
A- No not some horror porno with monster man sausages, but ear drums.

I had a bit of man flu last week, nothing any of us brave little soldiers have not battled against many a time before. Did I go to the doctors or chemists for supplies? Nah, it'll be ok, I've work to do i thought.
So Friday comes along, and rather than getting some supplies for the weekend I try and get one more case sorted out, and then WHAM it's Friday night and my head feels like it's in a vice.
Hot and cold, coughing like an old dog, full of snot, thinking maybe a lemsip will sort this out.
Then after a few hours kip Saturday, and still feeling crappy, I get up to get my lad some lunch.
I'd not eaten since the day before (more than enough on my frame to keep me going) and I felt strangely giddy. At one point I felt the legs go like jelly and the black shutters coming down (Occupational hazard of getting knocked out means at least I'd seen this story before) I slumped down, and after about twenty minutes woke to my son asking for some crisps as he'd finished his lunch, oblivious to what had happened. I had a strong sweet tea and put it down to not eating. Mand came home, I went up to bed, and then started feeling a bit odd.
The pressure in my neck grew, up my neck into my left ear, tighter and tighter until the excruciating pain ended with a fizz like and opened coke can, and then silence arm blood running down my neck.
Joy.
I've now got one ruptured ear drum, about 20% hearing, and both ears infected. Hopefully the right ear does not follow suit, hopefully, the hearing returns (aside from the quality of life I'll lose my job and house) and hopefully no-ones lost their dinner over this tale.
The morale of the story gents is, if you're not well, get some help sooner rather than later!
Interweb research and the family nurse (My sister Sue is brilliant) reckon things will be fine in next to know time. All I can say is that I can hear next to bugger all, and I'm keeping everything crossed.
(I'm sharing this here as I can hardly call people to discuss it)

Bloody hell man!! I would call you up and kick your arse for not telling me earlier, but you wouldn't be able to hear me :D

Glad Sue's on the case though but I sincerely hope that you are feeling better very soon. Was the passing out anything to do with the ruptured ear drum then?

Can you type that a bit louder?

They think it might have been yes, could have been much worse mate, could have been driving, standing at an ATM, crossing the road.....

Thanks for the sentiments, I'll keep you posted.

Bloody hell mate that doesn't sound good. Hope you get better soon.
I've got a touch of man flu and a crap cough at the minute. I don't suppose smoking 40 a day and not eating much helps.

Pardon...........

Shieet sorry to hear mate but yeah I have learnt that whenever there is anything different than the norm to get yourself down the Drs or even hospital as the sooner you get treated the better it will be.

How is a ruptured ear drum caused though ?

Thanks guys.
I did nt get more than a best guess as to how it happened.
The severity of the infection and the constant volume of gunk, combined with the stress of coughing and coughing showed up a weakness.
I was advised that if I were imagine the ear drum as an old style snare drum, with a thin hard skin pulled tight across the face of it. With tears or ruptures meaning the integrity or seal is broken, the function of the ear returns once the seal grows closed again.(Normally-fingers crossed)
It seems a little better today, in that I don't need the TV quite as loud etc (really scientific I know) but the nastiness has gone onto my chest so I think I've got this shit for a while.
