Grace 2- VR6 project

Post by Stuart »

Bought at a bargain price but with a fair list of things that probably need doing. It's a 94 model 2.8 VR6 with an auto gearbox. Pretty much standard and owned by a mate of mine for the last three years, I kind of knew that it would be fundamentally good but potentially rough around the edges.
Image
The engines put out over 170bhp as standard so if this thing is anywhere near that, I'll be pleased enough. The interior.........bloody hell, the interior is the bluest thing I have seen since the porn selection in my local newsagents!
Image
Dash, door cards, carpet and seats.......all smurfed up!
__________
I've only driven the thing up the road and already noted leaden turn in, with plenty of weight over the front axle, the brakes are nothing special but then the car has stood for ages and probably wants a bloody good service. On a brighter note the engine pulls well (if a little smoky) and the induction note makes me giggle.

One of the plans is, as the project thread indicates, is to recreate what I had with Grace my mk2, and strip a lot of the unnecessary stuff out, fit the buckets and dished MOMO wheel, get some coilovers on there and go from there. I am sure with a lot less weight in there, a stiffer set up (especially at the back to aid turn in) and a full service I'll get a good indication of whether it will cut the mustard. The auto gearbox is actually quite good for road stuff; not so sure about track stuff but as I very rarely do track stuff these days, I'm not that bothered.

A 2.2 diesel auto Vito for camping trips and a summer of fun :D
Nik has already been drafted in to help with carpeting the back of the van and I have to say that it drives absolutely superbly. Very comfortable, quiet and so much better built than I expected.
She's been out there cleaning the thing within an inch of it's life and intends on having it on the road within a few weeks.

So there we are. One German car gone (The 7) and two German ones gained. Another busy house in our household as we also found another couple of kittens in with the chickens yesterday morning

Nice projects mate, the Golf should be interesting.
You are catering for all engine / drive options, the only thing missing is a 4wd isn't it :)

Is that Tan in her PJs in the last pic ?

Golf looks good mate.
Seeing as I normally end up buying your cast offs can you not paint this one bright pink?
NATO's cool, but nothing that'll upset the neighbours :)

At risk of sounding rude , why build a stripped out , low , impractical ( track car ) if you dont do much track work .

You should just buy an E46 M3 or something there silly cheap now and they will always be cool and would suit for work etc and still be megga to drive

A2ON makes a good point which I do agree with but I know Stu has done the BM thing before.

However mega cheap depends on your definition of what cheap is.....they are still
