Getting shot at

Post by Stuart »

I was lucky enough to receive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for PS3 as a gift. It's the original version, as that was what I asked for (far cheaper, less of a burden for the purchaser)

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very good. Tanya thinks it's hysterical as I wander around, pointing my gun at the sky and reacting far too late at oncoming doom :)

With hours on end of getting shot to bits I'd assumed that my PS3 account has somehow been hacked, rendering my online persona the stealthy and subtle attributes of Big Bird from Sesame Street.

It's astonishing just how inept one person can be at something that they enjoy!

Anyway, at the weekend I was invited to go paintballing with SteveVR6 and some of his chums. It was even harder than the sodding game! I got repeatedly shot in the face; even shot in the back and arse by my own team. Coupled with the blatant lack of fitness I displayed it was a humiliating but enjoyable day in the country.

So, we've established I can't hit a cows arse with a banjo, but is there anything that I can do within COD to improve my chances? As I'm not very good up close in combat and even worse at distance, I guess I'd favour gaming advice around a more cagey style of playing using weapons that would enhance accuracy whilst packing punch. NO SNIPERS though. I know that technique doesn't suit my boredom threshold.

Any tips on tactics
Any tips on weapons and perks
Any tips on combining secondary and primary weapons?

More importantly, the nights are getting lighter and the options of getting work done on the car are increasing. Soon the video games will be a distant memory and I can go back to something else that I am cra at :D

I too seemed to get shot more by friendly fire, rather than the enemy!! Bruisers now starting to go but still tender in places. Get fun though!!

Cue my geeky response: :D

I play COD4 quite regularly still (im starting to prefer it to MW2 because it doesnt have cheat gadgets in it like the heartbeat sensor), initially i was awful at it. Couldnt kill anyone, was always getting "owned" as they say by 10 year old American kids and 30 Y/O wanna-be communists which drove me mad.

Just stick with it and you will improve, as they say practice makes perfect. I didnt play the single player game i went straight to multiplayer.

The team deathmatch mode is always popular but initially you can spend a whole game re-spawning before getting a shot in. I spent a good few hours doing search and destroy as players are alot more sneaky thus allowing you to explore the maps better and practice with different set ups.

What i use:

AK47 - MP5 - M16

You cant go wrong for all out bullet damage.

Perks
Stopping Power - 40% Increase in damage by primary & secondary guns
Deep Impact - Increased bullit penetration
Slight Of Hand - Reduces reload time by 50% (makes all the difference)

Ive always found the above to be fairly uselful, as for tactics. I dont really have any. Just dont sit in the same place and use the surroundings, and use the jump button.

Fancy a game one night just add me on the psn: S71CER - ill probably be pretty awful but it is a good giggle.

use your knife with perks ; marathon , commando and lightweight .
i use this set up on mw2 andi can run like lynford christe , with an average kills in a game of 15 > 20 , hardly ever shoot my gun , prefer to get up close and personal :headhack:
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]i used to be driven by demons ,
now i make them sit in the back

Different perks and maps Les, so unfortunately, that's largely irrelevant :) ;) Do you have the old one? I could do with the tuition

James, you'll be added tonight and we can practice synchronised suicide online.

I need to get a copy of MW2, I have got Killzone 2 which is similar, got through that with lots of anger. It's amazing how strong a PS3 controller is :smash:

I agree with James re the heart beat sensor- a real spoiler for those that enjoy a fair game. Having said that, the maps are more varied, and the weapons far better. RDS1972 if anyone fancies killing a similarly rubbish winter gamer (must be in the genes)

i agree with bigbimma about the perks he's suggested but i dont think lightweight is an option on cod 4 is it??

Depends what game your playing really?? if you playing a normal team deathmatch the definately stopping power, then the others are up to you to suit your gaming..

but if you play hardcore td best thing is:

UAV Jammer- so you cant be seen on enemy uav
2x Claymore- so you can set traps when you find a nice little hiding spot.
Deep Impact- so when you see the enemy and the hide behind a wall you can pop a cap in his ass.

then just 'camp' out as you need to perfect your aiming and shooting first before combining shooting and walking.. try and use one gun to start aswell so you get use to range, power reload time etc..

see how ya get on bud?

Used stopping power, extra ammo and deep impact to better effect last night. I was averaging around 12-13 kills per game when using a 750 pts/10min time limit.
M16 with a red dot backed up with a Desert Eagle for those that are interested. I'm playing at rank 46 so whilst I am shit, I am persistent too :)
