4 pot or 6 pot brakes

I am in the process of sorting out the brakes for the new build and was wondering if there is ever an occassion when you would choose 4 pots over 6 pots. Are there any other things that I should take into consideration when planning the new brakes.

As the likes of us would always refer to a responsible adult first, I would strongly suggest speaking to someone like AP in Coventry or Rally Design who distribute Wilwood. I'm sure there are other responsible adults but those two spring to mind.

I know that an efficient 4 pot set up is better than an ineffective 6 pot one and probably far cheaper too. I'm sure you've already checked but if you want to keep costs down why not check what the Group N cars were using at the time. I know full well some of the hassle that you can create through buying 'big brakes'. Chuffed with the performance, a shame about some of the side effects but there we are

Wheel size may make the decision for you.

4 pot versus 6 pot comes down mainly to caliper design/strength. For example the AP 4 and 6 pot kits will both fit under the same size wheel but the 4 pot is derived from competition and has a stiffer caliper design than the 6 pot. It therefore retains its effectiveness even when hot.

Pad choice and cost comes into it too and you should research replacement pad choices and cost before making the decision IMO.

Alyn at ASP would be a great call on this as what he doesnt know about brakes isn't really worth knowing.

Its down to the size of the piston and remember you may need to fit a different master cylinder if you increase the capacity dramatically.

I run AP 4 pots and they are just awesome.
