Soppy old fart getting all emotional!

Wow, what a day.

Today my youngest daughter went on the road for the very first time on her 50cc bike. *sniff*

I have been through this before with my eldest daughter but it doesn't get any easier.

All was fine until she decided to take a 90 degree left hander a bit too quick and ended up across the other side of the road. *heart attack* Luckily there was nothing coming the other way.

After pulling over and having a "chat" with her she got it sorted and was fine from then on.

We had to take her bike for the MOT which meant taking it into Wisbech which worried me a tad to say the least as I would have preffered her to get used to riding it on the back roads first but she negotiated the big roundabout on the A47 very well if not a little hesitant, but I would rather that than her to get impatient and try to pull out in front of something.

Anyway, the bike passed with a couple of advisories (which I am now going outside to sort) Taxed online, and the insurance was sorted this morning so she is now all road legal. *panic*

Omly the lad now and they are all independant. (He's only 13 though so a little while yet

)

Off to cry in the corner now. *sniff* My babies are growing up so fast

She didn't actually fall off just went very wide and went onto the other side of the road but a hell of a scary moment none the less.

Those were two of the many emotions that I was going through lol.

Luckily Sarah was at work so she did not get to see it lol but I bet she was worried to say the least until I texted her to say we were home safe.

Blimy Nik! You`re brave! My boy is NEVER going to get on a motorbike! Will i have to keep an eye out for a moped fitted with dodgem style bumpers?:) Its horrible feeling old aint it? I hate it when you bump into old friends, and they tell you that their kids have grown up,left school and are driving etc...

I bet i was`nt the only one that used to laugh when told by an elder that "the time goes quicker the older you get!"

All i can say Nik is you just don't look old enough to have kids that age.
Must be all the face cream you use and that timeless haircut

My kids are much older than yours and i remember when....Christ that was a long time ago

Suffice to say i'm a granded now with 4 grandkids. Keep up the good works!!

Good on ya Nik for being so supportive. I hope she gets to practice on plenty quiet roads building confidence and ability.

My two daughters are 14 (live with their Mum up north and I'm a weekend visitor) and I'm not quite sure what I'd think of them getting bikes. I was obsessed with bikes all through my teens, was never allowed to get one, was encouraged into a car at 17 to keep me off the bikes, then at 20 I went out and got a 125. Will always remember those first rides, vivid memories. Looking back, already having road-sense from driving made me a safer rider, and (touch wood) have never had a significant off in 25 years of riding. Have crashed a dozen times on various circuits but that's another story!

As the ex-partner hates bikes, my daughters probably won't get to ride I guess ... except maybe until they've been left home a couple of years!
