Track tyres and puncture repairs

Post by pablo »

As a rule I have always said no to puncture repairs on tyres that we intend to use on track. However now that one of our 888s is flat (it could be a faulty valve and not a puncture) was just wondering what the general thought on this was. Mainly due to the fact that if it is scrap then I will have to but 2 tyres as 3 heavily scrubbed tyres and one new tyre will affect the balance and handling of the car.
For a normal track day this wouldn't be a problem but for the time attack Alan has to drive on the ragged edge due to our lack of power so I want things right.

Knowing how Alan likes Kerbs, there is no way I would repair a tyre. It's just simply not worth the risk to him or your investment in the car.

By all means check the valve and also consider that it may be a tyre that just isn't seated quite right on the bead of the rim, therefore loosing a bit of air slowly.

Cheers Stuart. I blame the BTCC for Al's approach he studies there lines and then says if they can drive that line so can I  . Knockhill will be interesting or scarey
