Lotus open day

Post by steveVR6 »

Managed to get a couple of tickets for the open day at Hethel on Sunday. A real cracking day out and an insight of how these cars are put together.

It was a great day out Steve, you're right. I couldn't help walking around yesterday feeling very proud to have a manufacturer like that on our doorstep.

Did you get to try any high speed laps? Martin Donnelly was terrorising people on circuit as was Tony Paramont. The look on Gerrys face after the laps with Martin was a picture :D

I just remembered !!!

I asked about the old development car when we went round the factory earlier in the year and the guy didnt remember it - I knew it had a strange/old fashioned name and kept thinking it was Ernie !!!

Its actuially SID - Structures, Isolation and Dynamics.

Woohoo !!

Thank you Google !!

It certainly was a great day. The traffic to and from was something of a nightmare despite our not getting on site till 1ish.

Some great sights and lovely cars, new and old. The display of F1 cars was very nostalgic with the backdrop of Lotus drivers and the great man himself, Colin Chapman.

The drive with Martin Donnelly was sensational with the car sideways at speed through every corner. Although a crap passenger I didn't feel for one moment that the car wasn't totally under control. A great driver in a great little car. :-D
