Plans for 2009

It seems to have gone a bit quite in here with still one round to go.

Looking back at the season so far it is noticeable that a high proportion of BP members have sustained some sort of mechanical failures or problems throughout the year. I do hope that peoples spirts have not been dampened by their misfortunes.
This has certainly been an interesting and in some cases a very difficult year, yet whenever we talk about it our resolve to be a part of it next year is as strong as ever.

Was just wondering what peoples views and thoughts were on next years TA.

I hope the classes are re-evaluated. I'm sure they will be

I think it's a good format but to keep things fresh, a look at the rules would do wonders.

Gucci sprinting is great, the marketing is cool, the entries superb and the competition excellent.

It certainly isn't racing but I hope the Barnes/Horncastle collaboration yields more fantastic entertainment for next year.

Shame you didn't put this thread into a more general secton. Mechanical failure hasn't been exclusive to Time Attackers by a long chalk. :-D

A light hearted comment Dunk, that's all.

It is kind of like sprinting in essence, a single car trying to set the fastest time around a given track or circuit. The big difference with TA is that Rob, Andy and Glen have marketed the events in such a way that the appeal has brought in competitors from a slightly different demographic.

The competition is obviously led by those with talent and the means to back it financially. Much like sprinting.

The other reason is that I called it that, is the very reaction you gave

I would love to do Time Attack as well Dunk, but I cannot afford it. I have never knocked the series, nor would I.

I still prefer the idea of a race, lets face it getting a good lap time is great and extremely rewarding when it does go right for the driver but from a spectator point of view a race would be more exciting !!!!! As Stu says a lot of it is down to having a good driver and a car with plenty of money behind it.
5 years ago it was all about drag runs, then 3 years ago the drifting started to take off, the last 2 years have been about time attack......surely we are due for a race series now !!!!! I hope the Nippon challenge takes off more next year.

That said there have been some superb results with the time attack and a lot of cars equal or in some cases better than the current touring cars. Its great that a good number from the club have taken part.

With all the different realms of motorsport I think the TA format has it's place. Take us for example we love motorsport and competition of all forms, we have talked about the ford saloon championship in the past but we would need full sponsorship to do it also it just didn't feel right for us.

Time Attack in my opinion is a showcase event first and a competition second, it is there to showcase what the top tuners and individuals can and have achieved with the tuning of various cars and to then showcase them out on track and prove what they can do. All to often we see and hear about cars with big numbers dressed up like race cars yet you never see them out on track.

Think of it as a collective of mobile advertising boards being driven by a pack of humans all baying to be the 'alfa male' :-D
