throttle bodies on e36 328 , advice.

Post by BIGBIMMA »

looking at a few options for my car , one of them being throttle bodies ie; weber45s or 50s , has anyone done this or got any advice on who to tlk too ?
had a set of twin 45s on an old car and performance gains were quite good , noise was great but never tried it on 6 cylinder .
cheers

im not 100% but im sure you can use some thing like the m3 set up,we looked at this on stu's but you will need a ecu that does throttlebased load and not a afm

depending on the model you'll need ecu to control vanos too, this is where it costs as most cheaper ecu cant control that

Les, I had a long chat with Ian (Alpina527) when I bought my intake modifications from him. He tried to convert a 328 to M3 bodies a few years ago but after lots of head scratching and countless iterations of fabrications, he's of the opinion it can't be done. He sold everything he had fabricated for the conversion to a guy in the US and he's unsure whether that guy ever sorted it either. The biggest problem is something to do with the angles internally and externally where the bodies meet the head.

ok thanks guys
im just exploring some options to make mine faster , really like the way my e36 drives and the amount of fun i can have with it .
turbos and chargers seem to be quite expensive at the min .
i have two options
1; throttle bodies , depending on cost
or
option 2 a v8 conversion with the engine , box , loom and ecu from an e34 540il 4.4l v8 .
i know some have been done and ALPINA made a limited run of B8 coupes with the 4.4l from the e34 .
i just want more grunt from the car but dont have unlimited funds , but also i want to break frpm the norm and not go down the m3 transplant route , would like to do something different .
i will have to ponder on this one a little longer

Have you tried Emerald in Watton they have done loads of throttle body conversions. They might be able to help worth asking at least!
