safc 2 mapping advice

Post by Adam_sx »

im looking for some advice on setting up a safc 2 on my own, im not looking to push the power alot just to clean up the mid range over fueling slighty

the car is a s14a, its got everything for "stage 1" bar the chip

now ive got a innovate lm1 and some understanding of tuning but looking for advice on the low and hi throttle maps on the safc 2 and rough figures for mapping i can use then smooth it out with the wideband, the engine is health and running 225bhp when on the apt rollers on the sxoc vs soc day

any advice people can give me other than your crazy or stupid which i get on other forums  i actually do like to be hands on with my cars since im a mechanic so want to have a go at mapping it safely myself, all im looking at is leaning the afr ratio in the mid range so it doesnt go stupidly rich

i'll post some pics of the car up soon in right section soon

Adam - you are not crazy or stupid. I too, have taught myself to map my car although for the last month it has been mapped by someone else. (long story :) )

I am not familiar with the software that you use but I presume that you are logging all the engine data and the wideband to establish whether it is running to your targets.

It isnt as difficult as it seems but it is tricky to get it right and will take a lot of time to establish what works and what doesnt.

Biggest tip apart from the wideband is get some det cans (or make some) to find out whether the engine is detting.

What AFR's are you aiming for?

i can log all the wideband data using the software with it, i'm going to invest in the optional extras like boost logging and rpm logging soon aswell

if you could recommend a det can i should buy thats not going to break the bank that would be great cheers

well the afr's i was hoping someone with a bit more experiance could help me with...
i was thinking as close to 14.7 up untill around 2900 to 3000 then richen up to 12.5ish then on full boost 11.8-12 but these are completly rough figures tho so anyone with advice on mapping a safc 2 on a s14a sr20det would be great and much appreicated

its the low and hi throttle maps that are throwing me off at the moment so more info here is needed

should i retard the base timing by 1 or 2 degrees to be on the safe side cause understanding the way the safc alters fuel the ignition gets advanced with less "load" and since im only just starting out i dont wanna royally screw things up straight away
