Camera/Radar detectors
Anyone got any advice on the best to go for.
I have Tomtom and Warner Satnav with camera warnings. But the best warning system I've found is Roadangel. If I was starting again, I'd go for Roadangel satnav.
I did have a ahem 'garage door opener' that worked well
and a radar detecter that alarmed every time I drove near automatic door openers and roadworks

Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!

It is illegal to use a Radar/Laser detector that picks up live police speedgun signals, and illegal to use a garage opener as they block police Radar/Laser guns by emitting signal comparable to the equipment being used, thereby giving the speedgun user an error. The garage opener then switches itself off when it's picked up and transmitted the first signal to avoid detection. However....the police are well wise, know where to locate the hidden device and they will prosecute you when they have found it. Even if it's in your underpants
Plenty of cleverdicks have tried the 'but it's a garage door opener m'lud' defence and failed miserably!!
Gerry is a nice chap though and he would never use the garage opener trick because he doesn't speed on public roads :wack:
Use the passive type speedcamera warnings that are pre-programmed into a satnav device/software like the TomTom6 software i use on my XDA IIi PDA. I pay

Re: the comments above - unless the law has changed recently it is legal to use a radar/laser detector, it's use of a jammer that's illegal.
That's why it's ok for e.g. Road Angels to be sold with the add-on laser module (in the case of my older model) or with it built in as per the current version.
It's admittedly a law that I'm sure the government will want to change at some point but as I said unless it's changed recently detectors are not illegal.
As for a recommendation, I've been happy with my Road Angel but if I were to get one now I'd probably get one from the Snooper range depending on my budget.
Cheers,
Alex
