How long should your pads be lasting?

Post by James Breadvan »

Asking the question , because mine are down to the metal, again! After using ds2500s and being happy with the performance but not happy with the effect it had on my disks I tried some carbotech xp10s which are meant to be their trackday pads. They worked well and only faded once on the track, they did on the other hand only last less than 500 miles part of which was the day at Snetterton.

So how long are your lasting??

My DS2500's were lasting around 3,000 miles and that included a fair amount of track work. The Brembos were never used that heavily though as I found it better to be gradual with braking..I seem to remember you are pretty heavy on yours

It may be worth talking to a specialist brake manufacturer or distributor, Like Apex Performance (plug plug) as these guys are supplying the KSport kits at great prices. Alternatively speak to either Eddy of Fast Eddys or Alyn @ ASP as these guys are both disties for various brake firms.

In my opinion, you just need better brakes. Your car is simply too quick for that set up. They performed well at Snett, but if they're only lasting 500 miles that should tell you its own story.

james prob with the temps you running the pads to i reckon you need a race pad compound i can get some prices and options

your story sounds the same as i had with the standard evo brakes

my DS2500's lasted less than 5000 miles before crumbling away and ruining my discs.

The Performance Friction pads lasted 20,000 miles throughout last year and were only changed in October (for another set).

I know what you mean about better brakes Stuart, I need them to last longer rather than increase the performance but that probably will change with some better rubber on.

I'll give you a call Gary about some pads for the meantime untill I've got the dollar for a full upgrade on top of tyres, sump, steering bits, guest harness etc, etc.

It's going to be an expensive year again

more than likely the issue you have are far too high caliper temps or running the pads way beyond their upper ability causing the high wear rate

not personally used Carbotechs but not a big fan judging by some of the cars i have seen

is it an EVO?? if so then Performance Friction would be the one in either z-rated or 01.............

At best the DS2500 are fast road pads.

I'd still go with PF - I love them. They are great on the road and awesome on the track too in z rated format. I will try out the 01 compound soon but I am sure they will be equaling as good.

I need to get rid of the 2500s in my APs as I agree they're crap.
