Local Sprints

Post by blacky »

So chaps. shall we sort out some local sprints for the club, so shall the dudes not now doing the TA get together and do some MSA sprints?? Or maybe do some navigational rallys :?:

Anyone here in a local motorclub, or could recommend one???

Yes, my dad used to do them.....there must be a Eastern Regional motorclub that has, or is affiliated with other clubs that do a sprint series and navigatioal rallies...

I will do some research!

There was talk of Big Power doing a local Time Attack type of sprint thing.

The trouble from my point of view is that my RWD car will be up against (IIRC) the 4x4's because its all about engine size and not drivetrain.
Thats why we did the Time Attack rules based on drivetrain rather than engine size.

I have contacted both the Sporting Car Club of Norwich/Norfolk and also Cambridge Car Club about joining them on their events. SCCON only do road rallies, like a treasure hunt, where you need to average 30mph. Very dull in my eyes. I haven't heard back from CCC. I have asked MSV about doing something at one of their facilities but it's chicken and egg~ in order to do a sprint event event at a licensed sprint venue, we need to be registered with the MSA or get the event organised by someone who is.
I'm not giving up on this but I don't think there will be any confirmation until the end of March at the earliest.

All road rallies are average of 30mph and have been for many many years - since I was doing them in the mid eighties. It is very hard to exceed this in navigational events though and still allows plenty of room for fun

Running navigational rallies for club members can be done in house as long as just members are allowed to compete. This can be done without sanction by the MSA.

MSA seem to have everything pretty well wrapped up with regards to venues.
I went to one of the West Suffolk Motor Club meets about 2 years ago, they were all very nice people but it did seem all a bit stuck in a Time warp of some by-gone era where a gentleman was judged on his ability to tune his carburetors by ear...

When I said that I was into Japanese cars, watched drifting, and had just done the first Time Attack (came second from last, thats quite an achivement ) the reaction was of mild suprise rather than interest in what this new alien stuff had to offer.

I left them to the excitement of treasure hunts and real beer, I think I might join them again in about 12 years time when (if) I reach 50 :-D
