This may sound harsh Dan but please don't take offence.

Plans and circumstances change. Try to enjoy what you've got and make the best of it as no one ever knows what's around the corner. Pages of 'I want to buy this' and enough pictures to sink our bandwidth are all well and good, but nothing counts until you've fixed the MR2, saved up a few grand and then sold your existing car. I am probably amongst the worst offenders when it comes to speculative posts about what's next (no comments please) and whilst it's understandable that you'd be excited about your new toy, whatever that may be, don't lose sight of what you already own; a mid engined, rear wheel drive, 170hp sports car. When boredom kicks in, it can be a bugger to shift thoughts of something new.

Maybe we need a thread or area for 'the next car/toy' so that people can feedback on potential choices based on their experience or knowledge? Having owners from many different car spectrums was always supposed to make pooling ideas more successful.

Well done stu, i was thinking about posting something similar.

Yes no offence Dan and in fairness to him, others have been finding cars for him in a helpfull way. We all have a wish list, but get the MR2 repaired first lol.

You said about a Supra being cheaper to insure than the MR2. I bet that will not apply to a turbo.

The insurance boils down to, amongst other things, demographics Eddy. The average age of a Supra driver is much higher than an MR2; you should also allow for the fact that when the first model came out, the wedge shaped MR2, people were crashing them all of the time and therefore they became heavily loaded. This hasn't changed very much over the years. I think Dan got quotes for both the turbo and non-turbo models; even the standard turbo model was cheaper to insure than his MR2 I think (Correct me if I'm wrong Dan)

I do understand what you mean Stu, like we've said before on MSN i am arsehole lucky to have an MR2. None of the friends or people i know my age have a car like mine, they still have their clios and saxos. So i am very fortunate to own an MR car, but wanting a Supra isnt just for the sake of progressing and owning one. It's more practical then the MR2. (okay i know the supra is a 2+2 but still it has that extra space) but yeah cards on the table i've always wanted either a Supra or GTR since i first saw them. But as you say, circumstances do change and there's no way i'm just going to buy any old car that happens to come up. i have my debts to clear first, find someone who wants the car and find a car that ticks all my boxes :cheers2:

There's no danger of me abandoning the MR2 Eddy, there's no choice, it's got to be fixed for me to get a fir bit of money for it in order to fund a Supra. Both n/a and turbo Supra quotes are as follows, n/a is

Cool that the turbo Supra is still cheaper than the MR2. I stand corrected guys.

Just my opinion from a track point of view, we have recently had no end of problems with Supra's either overheating, or just outright blowing parts out of the engine bay on circuit.

One spent a 30 min session going round, came in, turned it straight off and the cylinder head went boom. They all had rather high mileage though but i think at that price range they all do.

Not teaching you to suck eggs, but just make sure if you actually get one its been serviced to the hills and well looked after as you don't want it costing a fortune, as what you save on insurance wont matter.

Granted, they are superb cars, and I always have liked them, and toyed with the idea of getting one briefly, but after a lot of research and running costs i chose against it. Always have listened to the advise of Mr Bingham, he's like a father to me :smilielol5:

Either way, best of luck and no doubt once the MR is fixed you may love it again for a bit longer..

I've heard about the cylinder heads too, apparently mine suffers from the same thing as do the estima vans but i guess ive been lucky so far. As for tracking it i will no doubtedly do a couple so i guess it's a risk that it could go pop.

No doubt that i will be after one with a good service record, and make sure that the usuals have been changed like cambelts/brakes etc but then again, my MR2 has a full service record, and it's cost me a fortune to repair/replace parts

One other car i thought about was an RX-7 buuuuut if i'm being honest, i know nothing about them in terms of reliability, maintenance etc But like you say James, with a new box i could get back into the swing of things and keep it yet. I think whats needed is more smiles behind the wheel like autotests again, because just those two laps really made me grin :D :smash:

if you decide to fix the box and you enjoy it again at least you have the option later on to get a supra knowing what you do about them in terms a reliability, costs to run and most important the insurance costs.
