Eddie, sorry! I was suffering with red mist yesterday and my mood wasn't helped with a few other 'issues'. I bought it from the same place that supplied my last Ashley system a few years ago.Fast Eddy wrote:Stu,

Regarding the eyebrow thing, I still have it and when I have the time I'll be mocking up all possible scenarios (with and without grilles, with and without eyebrows and twin and single lamps too)
I think my next Golf expense is on a new ISV to sort the idle out and then, that will have to be all for a while. I've just spent several hundred pounds on some equipment for the unit that was a bit unexpected. Thats on top of new seats, harness etc for the GTR. The monetary well is dry!!

New exhaust has added a bit more volume and a bit more pep! Fitting was a doddle I am delighted to say

Uodate
With the track day at Snetteton less than two weeks away, I have spent a couple of hours on the Golf.
The list of jobs is pretty short
Replace rear bumper after a low speed incident outside APT
Re-align front bumper due to dodgy fitment
Get the horn working
Strip the interior barring door cards and roof lining
Fit the Corbeau buckets after fabricating some rails for the side mounts to fit to
Weld in a rear brace that will double up as a harness bar
:thumb: Walk in the park
The rear bumper was very kindly provided by SteveVR6. Not the right colour but neither is most of the paintwork that I've done, so what matters! Once I've got the car through the first couple of events I'll have a go at painting it anyway. (Will remain white but just the one shade this time) Fitment of rear bumper was easy. 4 x 17mm bolts and a bit of lining up so that took 20 minutes only. I did take a minute or two to rub some slightly rusty bits down and hammerited it on the spot :thumb:

Front bumper was trickier. The 4 x 17mm bolts looked like they attached to the front subframe so I was really reluctant to undo them before checking with an adult first  SteveVR6 came up with the goods and Gt4Dave was on hand with the air tools to get the rusty bolts shifted. Another job jobbed!
Horn was done soon after, with various attempts all resulting in scaring the hell out of someone.
The interior removal is always something I like to do first hand. The condition of this Gti is quite good. Even better when you consider it's 20 years old! After an hour spent cleaning it all up, removing dirt and dust and cable tie-ing the remaining leads up it was ready for the brace to go in. I will be supervised in the welding department by Rob (RPS13). I am using 35mm OD x 2mm tube (T45 grade I think). I will also be welding support plates onto the strut towers. The bar will have a few collars welded in place to stop the harness sliding around and then it will be painted white to match the interior.

The carpet was stripped from the front passenger area, more tidying and more leads/cables cleared. The 52mm x 25mm x 3mm box section ERW will be welded in across the seat area, front and back. We should be able to get the seats really low, improving the weight distribution and gaining space away from the metalwork for the passenger/drivers helmet. The only thing I haven't sussed out yet is where to mount the inner harness point across the lap. The seat belt mount is attached to the runners on the OE seat.

More updates tomorrow :thumb:
