:iagree: I was never a corsa boy (it was nova`s in my day;)) but im sure 90% of us on here used to wragg the shit out of our under powered, over sub`d teenage shit boxes because they were lowered, had after market wheels so therefore looked faaarst!
I am also sure there are many who like me look back and cringe. They were happy carefree days and i wouldn`t change any of it. Myself and my mates used to attend more forms of motorsport back then than ever we do now. Most of the fun was packing beer and sleeping bags for a weekends road trip to watch everything from touring cars to F1
Yes todays chav`s piss me off but thats because im old and jealous of their youth. Without them where will the next generation of petrol heads come from?

A nova ???? Crikey I was in a vauxhall firenza it was a quick car back then......I then got the taste for V8s for a while....but Russ your right everyone has to start from somewhere. ....I jokingly said about the shit and shine brigade at the show however there was one car which is a regular which wad the little claret coloured clio.....ok not my cup of tea but the owner had spend a lot of time and effort making it different from anything else and for that I raise my hat.......
For me personally not I am older and should he wiser....I like both nice looking and good performance and thankfully I am lucky enough to be able to afford something suitable.
The chavs will eventually get some taste and realise its not all about go faster stripes and big stereo

You had a firenza as a first car!:coolgleamA: I bet you wish you still had that lurking at the back of your garage now?
I didn`t say i ever had a nova they were just the aspiring first car to modify. I was always far too leftfield. I had a 10 year old 1.3 mazda 323:frown: back in `91 when i passed my test.

[quote="Stuart"]I don't think this is grass-roots mate and I think that is half of the issue. When the average car in club costs

Think you may have missed my point entirely because "everyone has to start somewhere" was exactly it - if the appeal of TA is gone, the crowds dwindle, the event gets canned, and the racers have nowhere to race, and the people who attend have one less motorsport event to go to with their mates.

I was also a "corsa boy" well, Bedford Astra van actually so I had a Nova engine, and as Russ says I used to attend loads of motorsport events back then, RWYBs at the pod with sleeping bags etc. And if there'd been TA or ML back then I would definately have gone.

I was also not the one who first made reference to them as Chavs, although having been to ML i think it's a fairly apt description regardless of their choice of transport home.

I personally think time attack is a great concept however I think the issue is there are too many events competing with each other to draw the crowds.....andbthis by default dilutes the quality of cars and clubs that attend.....also physical location is an issue as much as we all love our new improved Snetterton its a ball ache of a placevto get to from moat other places in the UK.
If some ofbthese event organisers bothered to talk to each other Im sure thay could work a compromise with dates so they all benefit from a stong attendance.
Sadly a couple of weeks ago there were two classic car shows on the same day in the Norwich area.....I didn't personal attend either but I did speak to people who attended one or the other and they both said the quality was down due to the other show.
Its a shame as everyone seems to be in it for themselves and too the detrimental effect of other events add that to the economic downturn and we all lose out ultimately.
Sad times.......but on the upside we always have Dan to put a smile on our faces with the Paj out on track....

Apologies for the typing fat fingers on Android phone = shit typing

The interaction between TA and the general public is poor, in my opinion. Far to many of the teams / drivers are caught up in their own little worlds and forget that they are there to entertain the paying public.
You try walking into any garage and see if anyone talks to you or moves out of your way so can have a good nose around the cars, and god forbid you should want to know details of the spec of the cars.
Whenever people came looking round our car we would always step back and tell them it was ok to have good look round it and one of us would always be there to answer questions (and make sure they didn't touch anything).

They always have prizes for the best show and shine, club stand etc. i'm fairly sure that instead of winning more polish a few laps in a TA car would go down much better.

Even if every club stand held a raffle and the winner from every club got to go out in a TA car, I sure this type of thing would raise interest in the event and the desire to go to more shows. Just my opinion though..
