I don't know on scoobs, someone will know, but one way i would do it is leave the car in gear and tighten it that way, but i would get some locktight on it so it had no chance of coming off.

on another car (renault 1916v) i had you could screw a bolt into the side of the block and that would lock the crank.

I'd be more inclined to get it torqued up properly and as has been said get some threadlock on it.

I've not been down to the crank on mine so have no idea if there is a small peg that goes through it like a wheel bearing hub nut. Once those pulleys are on properly i don't think they shoud come off again so i would be more inclinced to get the garage that did the work in the first place to do it.
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Like Dave says. Put it in 1st or reverse and apply the handbrake. Tighten with a torque wrench so you know it's right.

Francis has a good point about getting it back to the builder, it should be down to them and to check for damage to the pulley, crank and/or woodruff key. I wouldn't put locktite on there as it shouldn't need it and may cause other problems when it comes to disassembling in the future.

Hope all's well :)

94lb/ft is the torque setting for that on mine TK - pretty high.

There is no way it would come off on its own as when I undid mine, I had to use a 5ft extension bar and bounce off it with all my weight before it cracked.

well crank pulleys all sorted out now and all apears to be ok and im just so glad my new engine wasn't ruined.
fingers crossed for tomorrow cars booked in for a couple of runs on the rollers at engine advantages as im working local to there so taking the car to work and dropping in on the way home, im very hopefull i have sorted out the problem of the fuelling after fitting a walbro pump and dropping the boost slightly by cleaning out the boost soleniod, car even smells as though its over fuelling at the moment :? time will tell
