Had a phone call from Alan to let me know that it's up and running :hurray: . He's going to run it up to temp then leave it to cool down overnight then recheck all the bolts. The next job will be for me to book it in again for another dyno run. Then it will be up to the tuner with regards to mapping, tuning, upgrades etc.
The only work now that I what left to use is basic maintenance, ie. fluid changes, plugs, brake pads etc and information on what else we should be checking or looking for.

well after a great day at santa pod sunday its time to do more work on the car.
after some positive feedback about the car from sunday it is all moving in the right direction, leave it to him to explaine.

last Saturday I bought a new intercooler for the car as the current one is not giving us sufficient cooling.
its only a 40mm core.
when I picked it up I had my suspicions that this was a RS500 intercooler from the pics.
the seller confirmed that this is indeed an original RS500 motorsport intercooler :sifone:
the price I paid for was an absolute steel.

this morning got car up on the ramps and got the old one off and you can tell by the pics
how much bigge this one is.

core size is 20mm wider

15mm thicker
Image

inlet and out let pipes are 3" against 2 1/2"
Image

this is a tight fit into the car, fills the space a lot more.
Image

intercooler came with a reducer so was able to pipe up the intercooler to throttle body.
with Gary's top tip using hair spray sleeved in a pipe and fitted.

the other side, I have to buy some pipes to get it all connected up, hopefully be sorted by the weekend.

Bearing in mind that I am gentle with the throttle and only use part throttle the car felt a lot smoother and much more responsive now that all the leaks have been sorted. You can now hear the turbo spoolling up and on gear changes you can also hear the wastegate. It doesn't backfire, pop or bang when coming off throttle no where near as much or as harsh as it was doing before.
I didn't give it any beans as it needs to back on the dyno first. Once thats done it will be up to them as to how to move the car forward.

What sort of figures are you expecting to achieve on the dyno with the way the car is currently set up mate?

To be honest no more than we had, around 430-450bhp and i'd be happy. More interested in what we'll hopefully gain through the rev range and at what revs she starts making boost.

I've just been watching a couple of the clips on youtube as I'd really only ever seen your car in pictures and hadn't seen it run properly on track. The Ford Fair footage shows that it's quite firmly planted compared to others who seemed to get a bit squirrly' exiting some of the corners, it looks like a lovely car to drive by the way.

I'd like to seem some footage from the next time you venture out on track :driving:

It was that session that made me realise just how laggy the turbo was but at the time i thought (wrongly so) that we needed to fit double valve springs to allow us to rev the engine higher. It was only when we took the car to the new tuner. As he wanted to check the car over and put it on his dyno to see where it was. That the real issue was high lighted.
Even though we had a plan of what we wanted to do he said the car should be making boost a lot earlier than that and the first thing he wanted to do was to check the turbo over and possibly change the housing. When Alan took the turbo off ready to send back to them he discovered all the leaks and problems.
The tuner agreed that we should fix all those little issues and then take it back to him and slap it on the dyno again, and then from there we can start planning the next step.

It sound like you're pretty much ready to get it back on the dyno mate and then of course the much anticipated shakedown.....it's not even my car and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it's progressed out on track :driving:
