Gerry

I'm gutted for you mate. These things always happen at the worst possible times. As for your question regarding the rebuild, I would just see what happens. No need to go into that at the moment as it's probably best to assess the damage first and then I'm positive there will be many people on here happy to help in anyway they can........me included.

If you mood mellows, please pop along. It would be nice for a few of us to get together at the first event.

I understand, my motivation would have wilted as well. If you change your mind just turn up for signing on and I'll have a chat with Christine, you are always more than welcome to borrow any motor I have in the garage. I've got all the hardware required to sort the engine if there is anything you need to borrow, or a spot in the garage once the RA is gone.

Don't know if I'd want to turn up tomorrow or not in your position, but if you fancy a bit of company come on down, unlimited stuff from smiffys on me.

Gutted for ya Gerry

I was unsure as to come, as my oil pressure has dropped 0.5 bar, and I thought it may just be the pressure sender on teh gauge, went and bought a mechanical gauge and it ties in with teh Defi, so some how I have lost 0.5 bar in te engine somehow, on a 7-8k on a new steel build....hmmm, I am slighty worried and also getting jarred off with the bloody thing, but i will come down and watch the pressures.

Be good to see you tomorrow Gerry

I wouldnt be happy running the engine at 7 psi Logan. Is that at idle? What is the idle speed? Does it pick up Ok with rpm? Is it different when cold?

Thanks for the offers. It could only happen on this site with you guys.

I may pop along later to say hello and take you up on the offer for Smiffy's fare :D

And take a sneaky look at the opposition

BTW I heard today that Mike Blackmore has blown his engine. Feel bad for him and hope it's sorted soon.

Sorry to hear about you problems Gerry.
Don't be disheartened. I have had three full rebuilds on my GTR engine in as many years!
We all have great respect for you and know about your levels of mechanical sympathy!
You have had great fun and results with your car and based in its stock internals i think it is fair to say that it has done pretty well.
I hope the fix is easy and cheapish. Let me know if i can help with any bits ok.

Thanks for the kind words Eddy. The old bus has done me proud and disproven the chocolate piston reputation of Impreza engines.

Just need to sort out what's to be the next level. As Stu often comments, "Onward and Upward" :D

Gerry, that is a real bugger that this has happened just on the eve of the start of the season.

Is it worth just putting a better head gasket on there and maybe getting the heads o-ringed to increase the clamping on it to get it all back together and holding as there isnt really anything else wrong with the short block? It would be far cheaper and a much quicker job.
