other things to consider are:

What are you using it for, road only, road and a couple track days, lots of track days???

This could make yor decision easier?? due to servcing, and parts availability etc.

of course. i will be driving all of them i hope. but i need to know if its worth putting on my list first.

as i said, i hope to be able to walk to work soon.

i would be optimistic and say about 2 track days a year and a trip to the pod etc.

a few events like TRAX and USC etc.

the main thing is trying to keep 5 seats in the equation!!

i want to be able to take the family to meets etc. and it might be my only car.

This rules you out of getting a skyline.

The rear seats in a Skyline aren't very big at all although it does have a large boot, so perhaps you could shove the kids in there? I think Blackys RA option sounds a good bet if you like something more hardcore or maybe an Accord type R if you fancy something a bit leftfield.
I would also consider a bigger engined Legacy too for that :thumb:

well i have in fact posted a question on soc.com about swapping the rear seat of a GTR and putting in a GTS-t one for getting the 3 back seats.

reading some stuff about the RA is a bit confusing. there seem to be soooo many scoobie models and wether they come with dccd whatever that is lol

the legacy is only available in estate form really, although i would love to get a B4 RSK!!

there is no way i am getting a FWD car this time round!! so the TYPE R has never been considered.

the budget doesn't cover a good wad for servicing etc thats seperate btw

this is my basic list ( in order of preference )

skyline R33 GTST or 32GTR if possible
EVO 3
EVO 2
BMW M3
pulsar gti-r
legacy
now the impreza?

really needs to have 4/5 seats, RWD or 4WD, saloon or coupe, odd track day or drag run, good supply of parts etc

i must point out that if i was to get something a bit awkward for everyday use i will be getting a cheap run about like a 7 seater renault 21 for a few hundred quid.

All I can say is, it depends on what ya want out of the car

r33 GTST - more of a grand tourer, heavy, utimately not maega tunable unless you have some serious bucks. parts as far as I know aren't abundant, and are expensive

R32 - awesome car, buut, expensive as hell to run, and if it goes wrong...well there are plenty of peeps who will tell ya about that! same goes for parts, as it was never a UK offical car.

Evo 3 - good car, excellent handling, easyish to get to 300bhp, think teh brakes are cack as all mid 90's cars are.

Evo 2, same as above, looks really dated now IMHO, and they all tend to have rusty roofs, so bugdet of fixing that.

M3, I assume its a old E36 in your price range, top cars again, real world quick, not sure about how good teh old uns are as I am not a euro spec
dude.

Pulsar, pocket rocket, buy one modded coz if not there handling is not great, the brakes are shocking, once tuned the gearbox is the weak point and if thge boost levels are raised it needs to set up properly as the pistions are only cast.

Impreza, as said before, teh model to go for for teh hardcore track spec is the RA, its mega quick out of the box, but is not a cruising car as on teh motorway it will be 4k+ at 80mph, a normal STI or WRX are gonna be cheap fun, and parts are everywhere and cheap.

If I was in your position I think it would be between a Evo 3 and STI Scoob, five seats, reasonable running costs compared to others, they are tunable but also very good out of the box. the Impreza is better for spares etc and cheap modding, but as said before there are loads about, and lots that are chavved up.....

thanks blacky. thats wicked advice mate!

i don't want to go beyond my means ( i do have 4 kids! ) and it just aint worth buying something coz its cheap to then have to sell it through lack of money.

i am realistic and trying to be impartial. luckily i'm not "brand loyal" so i don't mind which one i have so long as i know it will do what i want for the circumstances.

i got used to turbo power now and the M3 is nice ( as is some alpina versions!! not to mention how cheap the nwer 540 V8's have become!! )

but what else can you do to a beemer other than supercharge it or turbocharge it? then thats stupid money.

thanks guys!!
